With the success of The Super Mario Movie, the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie is bringing even more famous Nintendo villains to life on the big screen. The creators at Illumination have made sure both films are filled with hidden references and nods to the classic games, and this is even more apparent in the new movie as the story ventures into different worlds and introduces new characters – including plenty of villains.
The Mario games are famous for their challenging bosses, each with unique powers and memorable appearances. The upcoming Super Mario movie is taking inspiration from these classic villains and including them in the next installment.
The upcoming Super Mario Galaxy movie continues the story from the 2023 film, bringing back Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, and Jack Black as Bowser. Joining them this time are Brie Larson as Rosalina and Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr. The film will be in theaters on April 1st.
All Bosses in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
Bowser

The movie The Super Mario Bros. Movie quickly established Jack Black’s Bowser as the ultimate Mario villain. He was a powerful and furious character who surprised audiences with his musical talent, even earning a Golden Globe nomination for an original song he performed in the film.
Bowser first appeared as the main villain in the original Super Mario Bros. in 1985 and has been a central antagonist ever since. He’s best known for his attempts to conquer the Mushroom Kingdom and his persistent efforts to marry Princess Peach – a plot point that was also featured in the first Mario movie.
Bowser appears much smaller in the new game compared to previous appearances, but he’ll still be a major villain players have to defeat.
Bowser Jr

The new Super Mario Galaxy Movie appears to be taking a page from Super Mario Sunshine by featuring Bowser Jr. as a key villain. Just like in that earlier game, Bowser’s son will be central to the plot, this time trying to rescue and restore his father to power.
The trailer shows him using his magical paintbrush and transforming into his form from Super Mario Wonder, both of which fans are eager to see in the new Mario movie.
Kamek

Kamek, Bowser’s trusted advisor and a powerful Magikoopa, returns from the first Mario movie. He’s a common villain in many Mario and Yoshi games, so his presence hints at a potentially larger role in the sequel, especially with Yoshi being involved.
Kamek was first introduced in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island, where he famously kidnapped Baby Luigi. With Baby Mario and Baby Luigi appearing in the trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, some fans wonder if Kamek might be behind this new event as well.
Wart

Wart is a memorable character who appears in both the Mario and The Legend of Zelda series. He’s a boss in Super Mario Bros. 2, trying to take over the Dream World, but he’s just a regular enemy in The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening.
It’s still unclear how the Toad boss will appear in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, but some clues suggest he might fill the same role as Wario does in the video games.
Megaleg

Megaleg first appeared in the 2007 game Super Mario Galaxy. This huge, multi-armed robot was built by Bowser Jr., and each of its three legs is fitted with dangerous traps.
Early trailers for The Super Mario Bros. Movie show Princess Rosalina battling Megaleg, but it’s still a mystery what the villains want with her and if Megaleg is controlled by a pilot or acts independently.
Birdo

Birdo, the pink dinosaur who shoots eggs, is returning as a boss in the new game. She seems to be located in a casino-themed area, similar to where Wart appeared in trailers for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. This suggests the heroes might face multiple villains in that world.
Birdo sometimes helps Mario and his friends, but it’s unknown if she’ll be an ally in this particular story.
Mouser

Fans also spotted Mouser, a well-known enemy from past Mario games, in the trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Mouser previously worked for the villain Wart in Super Mario Bros. 2, so his appearance alongside another toad villain in the new movie fits with his history.
Mouser is a character in the game who’s easily recognized by his black sunglasses and habit of throwing explosive bombs at the player.
Clawgrip

The quick preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie showed off some unexpected Nintendo characters and officially revealed that Clawgrip will be a villain in the film.
Okay, let’s talk about Clawgrip. This crabby villain popped up in Super Mario Bros. 2, and honestly, he’s pretty straightforward – his main move is chucking boulders at you. What makes him interesting is his pirate vibe, and the fact that he teamed up with Wart in that game. That connection makes me think we might see him causing trouble in the casino levels, which would be a fun throwback!
