The Super Mario Galaxy Movie….

Video game movies have improved dramatically since the poorly received Super Mario Bros. film in 1993. The 2023 Super Mario Bros. Movie was a huge success, earning over $1.3 billion. A sequel, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, is planned with new characters like Yoshi, and features Bowser reduced to a miniature size and controlled by Mario and Luigi.

What’s going on in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie?

Things are about to get much bigger! Princess Rosalina is captured by Bowser Jr., and it’s up to Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach to save her. This new adventure introduces a host of characters not seen in the first movie, including Rosalina, Yoshi, and Fox McCloud, creating a lively mix within Mario’s universe. While the results are mixed, the sequel expands the world with these fresh faces.

A better sequel?

The first sequel is a bit uneven – it has some great moments, but also some weaknesses. It successfully includes many beloved elements from the games, packed with Easter eggs for fans. The animation is as bright and colorful as you’d expect from Illumination Studios, the creators of the Minions movies, and the visuals really pop. However, the movie throws a lot at the audience, which might feel overwhelming and chaotic for some. Plus, the inclusion of Fox McCloud, a popular character, feels forced and doesn’t add much to the story.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie shares some of the same issues as the first film. Viewers who aren’t familiar with the Mario universe may find it confusing, but dedicated fans will likely love it.
