Super7’s Brian Flynn Teases the Company’s Future Godzilla Plans

Year after year, Super7 manages to make the San Diego Comic-Con International feel extraordinary by tailoring their official store, located just a stone’s throw away from the convention center, to iconic themes. This year, it came as no shock that the store transformed into Godzilla Station, inspired by the Monster King himself and showcasing new merchandise from the team, along with a significant makeover for the building itself.

In an interview with ComicBook, Brian Flynn, founder, owner, and Chief Creative Officer of Super7, shared his passion for Godzilla and discussed the future plans for the iconic Toho franchise in their products. Flynn mentioned that they always bring something unique to San Diego Comic-Con, and since they hadn’t created anything related to Godzilla before, it was high time they did.

During this year’s event, Super7 unveiled exclusive Godzilla Station merchandise for attendees, as well as special editions of FUN! FUN!, ReAction, and Ultimates figures based on various Toho kaiju characters.

Flynn highlighted an intriguing development that Godzilla enthusiasts might observe: Super7’s Godzilla strategies are bringing together two distinct timelines. Initially, the ReAction line showcased Godzilla’s early years, encompassing his initial appearances and monster companions from the 1960s and ’70s. On the other hand, the Ultimates line has primarily focused on the ’90s sequels and contemporary adaptations like “Godzilla Minus One.” As Flynn explained, these two lines will now intersect and diverge, with each venturing into the other’s respective time periods as they progress.

Although we’ve made a start on the ReAction line, there are still numerous Showa series kaiju yet to be produced, let alone those from the Hesei or Millennium series. This means we have a lot more work ahead of us. When it comes to releasing our ReAction Figures, we prefer to do so in waves that connect and complement each other – themes, battles, story arcs.”

This version attempts to make the text easier to read while maintaining its original meaning.

Collectors might have observed a pattern in the ReAction figure line, as the initial release included the 1954 Godzilla and the 1974 Mechagodzilla, whereas the latest wave showcases two different versions of Godzilla – one from 1989 and another from the 2023 movie “Godzilla Minus One”.

For those following along, we directly questioned Flynn about certain iconic Toho monsters for the Ultimates series. While we and many other fans might still be hoping for Rodan, lesser-known creatures like Sanda and Gaira from “The War of the Gargantuas” could potentially appear. However, it’s important to note that a Kong character from the 1962 film “King Kong vs. Godzilla” likely won’t be a focus at this time, which may not surprise legal experts.

Flynn hinted at several upcoming Toho Ultimates, featuring both beloved classic kaiju and unique versions of Godzilla yet to be unveiled. He emphasized that the team considers various collector preferences when producing figures, ensuring there’s something appealing for everyone.
