Ramin Djawadi, the composer known for his work on Game of Thrones, will be creating the music for the upcoming Supergirl movie directed by Craig Gillespie. The film focuses on Kara Zor-El (played by Milly Alcock), who was first introduced in last year’s Superman movie. Djawadi’s impressive resume also includes scores for Westworld, Fallout, 3 Body Problem, and Mercy, making him a valuable addition to the project. He’s certainly in high demand!
According to Film Music Reporter, Ramin Djawadi is no longer composing the music for Supergirl. Dutch composer Tom Holkenborg, who also goes by Junkie XL, will be taking over the scoring duties, likely because Djawadi was overbooked.
Hiring Ramin Djawadi to compose the music for Supergirl felt like a Game of Thrones get-together, as he also created the score for the House of the Dragon prequel, which launched Milly Alcock’s career. Meanwhile, Junkie XL previously collaborated with Hans Zimmer on the music for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He also worked on Justice League before Danny Elfman took over, but was later brought back to rescore Zack Snyder’s Justice League completely. Junkie XL’s work on both of Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon films demonstrates a strong working relationship between the two.
Hiring Junkie XL to compose the music for the upcoming Supergirl movie feels reminiscent of the previous DC film universe Zack Snyder built. Fans are now wondering if the score will have the same powerful, energetic style as Junkie XL’s work on Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
The Old DCU Meets the New DCU in ‘Supergirl’
Tom Holkenborg, also known as Junkie XL, has composed music for many popular films like Mad Max: Fury Road, Godzilla vs. Kong, and all three Sonic the Hedgehog movies, showcasing his ability to create a wide range of sounds. His work on Supergirl will probably be a perfect match for the film. It’s interesting that director James Gunn chose a composer so well-known for his work on previous DC films, considering some fans are still hoping for a return to the old DC Extended Universe.
As a huge movie fan, I’m really excited about the cast of Supergirl! Besides Alcock, we’ve got Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, and Emily Beecham all joining the fun. But the casting that really got my attention is Jason Momoa as Lobo. He’s already a familiar face from Game of Thrones and Zack Snyder’s DC films, and Lobo’s such a cool, unique character – a bounty hunter zooming around space with a seriously memorable look. I think he’s perfect for the role!
