The first trailer for the upcoming Supergirl movie is here, and people are already sharing their reactions online. Everyone from casual moviegoers to dedicated DC fans – including those who followed the previous DC Universe and DCEU storylines, and longtime fans of the comics and past Supergirl adaptations – are weighing in on the new footage.
It’s no surprise that the Supergirl trailer has gotten a mixed reaction. People either love it, dislike it, are still trying to make sense of it, or want to see more. But one thing seems clear: everyone agrees you don’t mess with Krypto!
Supergirl Trailer Has The World’s Attention
The new Supergirl trailer is inspired by the popular 2021-2022 comic book series, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, created by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. It shows Kara Zor-El (played by Milly Alcock) attempting to enjoy her birthday at an alien bar, where she can freely drink since there’s no yellow sun. However, her celebration is interrupted by a fight that leaves her dog, Krypto, seriously injured. The only cure for Krypto is held by a dangerous group of alien pirates.
Kara quickly teams up with Ruthye Knoll, a young girl who lost her family in the same attack that harmed Krypto. They’re later joined by Lobo, an alien bounty hunter, and together the three of them embark on a mission to find and stop Krem of the Yellow Hills, the pirate leader responsible.
Fans React to Supergirl‘s Trailer: Krypto, Lobo, DCU Connections & More

Many fans, particularly female viewers, felt this trailer was exactly what Supergirl needed to generate excitement and draw audiences to the theater. Overall reaction to the trailer has been positive, with people enjoying the blend of emotional character development, an epic space adventure, and exciting action. The cast is making a strong impression, and Jason Momoa’s portrayal of Lobo is receiving a lot of early praise for his appearance.
Everyone expected James Gunn’s Superman and Craig Gillespie’s Supergirl to be connected, but it came as a surprise to see Krypto the Super-Dog in danger again!

Naturally, when the trailers for Supergirl and A24’s horror movie, Backrooms, both dropped, fans started a playful debate about which one was better.

One common criticism of Supergirl is that it feels too similar to James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, particularly the third film.
Supergirl Trailer Draws MCU Comparisons (In A Bad Way)

I was really surprised to see Krypto injured in the movie! It’s so different from the comics, where he’s always by Kara’s side. It’s sparked a lot of debate, and some critics are saying James Gunn is imposing his vision too strongly on the DCU. But a lot of comic fans – myself included – think the film actually captures the feel of the Woman of Tomorrow comic really well. It’s just frustrating because the conversation keeps getting derailed into comparisons with Marvel and Guardians of the Galaxy, which honestly feels unfair.
The movie Supergirl comes out in theaters on June 26th. It will be interesting to see how people respond! Share your thoughts on the trailer with other fans on the ComicBook Forum!
