While My Hero Academia is well-known for its superhero stories, it’s not the only anime featuring crime fighters. Shows like Tiger & Bunny, One-Punch Man, Super Crooks, and To Be Hero X have all explored worlds with masked heroes. Anime has even seen adaptations of popular Marvel and DC superheroes. Unfortunately, one major superhero anime series has recently finished its run, meaning fans have fewer options to enjoy.
Though it hasn’t reached the same level of popularity as shows like UA Academy, the anime Shy has become well-known in recent years. It started as a manga series in 2019 under Weekly Shonen Champion and was adapted into two anime seasons due to its success. While a third season hasn’t been announced, the manga has officially ended with its 293rd chapter. The creator, Bukimi Miki, has confirmed there will be no further chapters, and to mark the end of the series, they released a new illustration of the main character.
Miki shared their feelings about the new artwork and the series ending, saying they hoped their piece, “SHY,” could be something to experience alongside viewers, even if it couldn’t completely shield them from hardship. They expressed deep gratitude for all the support they’ve received.
SHYという作品がだれかにとってやまない雨の日の傘とまではいかなくても、一緒にずぶ濡れになってくれる何かになってくれたらいいなあと思って走り抜きましたこれまでの応援ありがとうございました!!

The Story of Shy
Unlike superhero stories like My Hero Academia and One-Punch Man, where powers come from natural abilities or intense training, the heroes in Shy gain theirs through special devices. The manga, which has now concluded, takes place during a global war. Heroes use ‘Heart-Shift Bracelets’ to unlock their powers, with each country having its own team. Japan’s top hero is Teru Momijiyama, a remarkably shy young woman whose shyness has actually become her heroic nickname.
You can currently watch the first two seasons of the anime on Crunchyroll. It was created by Eight Bit Studio, known for popular anime like Blue Lock, That Time I Got Reincarnated As a Slime, and The Irregular at Magic High School. However, the studio hasn’t announced whether they plan to make a third season of Shy. With My Hero Academia finishing its main story and One-Punch Man receiving criticism from fans, a third season of Shy would help continue the trend of superhero anime.
