Enthusiasts who were captivated by David Corenswet’s initial portrayal of Superman this past summer, listen up! It’s been officially confirmed that the Last Son of Krypton will be back on your screens within the next two years.
Director James Gunn, along with Peter Safran as his co-head at DC Studios, has shared on social media that the upcoming film, titled “Superman: Man of Tomorrow,” is set to hit theaters on July 9th, 2027.
In Gunn’s post, the caption only mentioned the film’s title and release date. However, the picture he shared – an illustration of Superman and Lex Luthor both in armor – provides some hints about potential elements in the upcoming sequel.
In simpler terms, it appears that even though Nicholas Hoult’s character, Luthor, was arrested at the end of the first movie, he’s expected to remain the primary adversary for Superman in future films as well, causing him significant trouble once more.
In the comics, Luthor builds a Warsuit as an effort to equal his adversary’s strength and abilities, hinting at potential head-to-head battles between them in the movie. However, any further plot revelations are likely to remain secret until closer to the film’s release.
Absolutely, there are still two additional movies set in the revamped DC Universe coming out prior to the release of “Man of Tomorrow.” These might very well lay the groundwork for events in that movie.
In the upcoming summer season, Milly Alcock is set to have her main appearance as Supergirl, building upon her brief introduction at the end of the Superman series. Meanwhile, September will bring the premiere of Clayface, starring Tom Rhys Harries as the title character.
Some upcoming DC films that have been announced include “The Authority,” “The Brave and the Bold,” “Swamp Thing,” and a yet-to-be-titled Wonder Woman film. There’s still hope for a Sgt Rock movie as well, since the initial plans directed by Luca Guadagnino were temporarily halted.
Under considerable anticipation following months of preparation, Gunn, the previous director of Guardians of the Galaxy, demonstrated he could handle the challenge of successfully launching his new DC project this summer.
In July, Superman made his cinematic debut to widespread acclaim from critics and a strong response from fans. Particularly noteworthy was Conrenswet’s portrayal of the iconic lead character, which has been particularly well-received. It will undoubtedly be interesting to follow the direction that the DC Universe takes moving forward.
