Superman Confirms a Major Arrowverse Figure Already Exists in the DCU

James Gunn is undertaking the challenge of revitalizing the DC Universe. He’s tasked with correcting the missteps of the DC Extended Universe, which struggled to find its footing from the beginning. Movies like Man of Steel, Shazam!, and Wonder Woman were standout moments, but by the 2020s, the DCEU was weighed down by too much history, and it felt like they were reaching for solutions with each new release. The most glaring example of this was Black Adam, a film that had potential to shake up the power structure in the DCEU but ultimately served more as a platform for Dwayne Johnson to build his on-screen presence.

On the big screen, the DCEU struggled, but on the small screen, the Arrowverse thrived. Despite some inconsistencies, shows like Arrow were hugely popular and brought attention to characters who weren’t utilized much before. It seems that the success of the Arrowverse may have caught Gunn’s eye too, as it turns out that they’re already active in the DC Universe, as Superman suggests.

The Justice Gang Isn’t the DCU’s First Superhero Team

In the beginning, it’s made clear that Superman has been a superhero for several years, having encountered various heroes before. Among them are members of the Justice Gang like Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific, and Green Lantern. When a monstrous kaiju rampages in Metropolis, these heroes arrive to take it down, although their methods are questionable. Despite this, Superman acknowledges their assistance. Lois Lane, who happens to be his girlfriend, notices the camaraderie between them. Later, when her boyfriend goes missing, she seeks aid from the Justice Gang at their Hall of Justice. However, Green Lantern and Hawkgirl refuse help. Mister Terrific, being sympathetic, decides to accompany Lois, emulating the actions the heroes who once inhabited the Hall would have taken.

Inside the Hall of Justice, Lois notices a mural filled with iconic DC characters from the past. Among them are Alan Scott, Jay Garrick, and Ted Grant – all belonging to the Justice Society of America. However, one figure on the mural seems more inclined towards Barry Allen than the original Flash: Vibe. In his traditional comic book attire, Cisco Ramon is deeply rooted in the DC Universe’s lore. Although Superman remains unconfirmed if he’s still among us, should he appear, it’s likely he’ll have an important part to play in future events.

Vibe Could Give the DCU a Power It Desperately Needs

As a devoted movie reviewer, I find myself captivated by the unique abilities of Vibe, a character whose powers mirror those of The Flash’s counterpart. This extraordinary individual has the uncanny ability to create interdimensional rifts, granting him access to countless realms. His distinctive skill caught the attention of the Justice League, earning him a coveted place among its esteemed members for many years.

Unfortunately, Vibe’s tenure with the team was cut short when he met his untimely end at the hands of Professor Ivo. However, death could not claim him forever, as he was resurrected during the cataclysmic event known as Blackest Night. This resurrection saw him transformed into a terror, targeting the very heroes he once considered friends.

While it remains to be seen when the DCU will adapt Blackest Night for the big screen, Vibe’s potential remains undiminished. If Gunn and Co. are willing to borrow from the Arrowverse, this enigmatic character could play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the DCU.

Given that Jay and Vibe are depicted together in the Hall of Justice mural, it’s likely they have some sort of connection. As a character with ties to the original Flash, Vibe could become one of Barry’s friends when it’s his time to assume the role in the DCU. In this capacity, Vibe might serve as Barry’s mentor, guiding him through the challenges and responsibilities of being a hero. Additionally, he could help keep Barry in check, given that there was a storyline where the Justice League enlisted Vibe specifically to take down The Flash if he ever became a threat. Given Barry’s understanding of the dangers associated with his powers, having Vibe as a contingency plan would make sense.

Superman is in theaters now.
