Superman Fans Believe MCU Star Will Be DCU’s Brainiac in Man of Tomorrow

Some DC Universe fans have been acting like detectives and found evidence suggesting James Gunn will cast a well-known actor as Brainiac, the likely big villain in the upcoming ‘Man of Tomorrow’ project.

For a long time, rumors have circulated that Brainiac – Superman’s second most famous enemy after Lex Luthor – will be the big bad guy in the upcoming film, *Man of Tomorrow*. Director James Gunn recently hinted that these rumors are true when he posted a picture of the script’s cover page, which showed an image of a brain that wasn’t human. Fans believe this means Brainiac will be the main villain, and that Superman will have to team up with Lex Luthor to defeat him.

Fans are speculating that James Gunn may have already chosen an actor to play a supervillain in the DC Universe after one of the actors reacted positively to Gunn’s post about the ‘Man of Tomorrow’ script.

Why do DCU fans believe Chukwudi Iwuji will be cast as Brainiac in Man of Tomorrow?

Chukwudi Iwuji, who worked with James Gunn on both *Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3* and *Peacemaker* (playing The High Evolutionary and Clemson Murn), liked Gunn’s recent Instagram post about his new project. Fans noticed this, along with likes from other DC Universe actors like Aaron Pierre and Skyler Gisondo, and from actors expected to return like Xolo Mariduena, leading many to speculate that Iwuji might be involved in the new project as well.

A fan on X suggested actor Chukwudi Iwuji might play the villain Brainiac in the DC Universe. Another user pointed out that James Gunn, during the Peacemaker podcast, specifically avoided making Murn’s appearance official canon, hinting he wanted Iwuji available to play a different role – one that might not even be human.

James Gunn stated on the Peacemaker podcast that he considers Clemson Murn to be part of the official DC Universe canon. While he acknowledged they might need to recast the role with Chukwudi Iwuji for future projects to allow for flexibility, Iwuji could also play a completely different, potentially non-human, character.

Until DC Studios or James Gunn officially confirms Brainiac’s appearance in ‘Man of Tomorrow’ and announces who will play him, fans should treat all rumors as unconfirmed. Currently, David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult are the only actors officially cast in the film.

Man of Tomorrow is scheduled to hit theaters on July 9, 2027.
