Superman: Wendell Pierce Shares First Look at Perry White After Not Appearing in Trailer

As a lifelong aficionado of comic book adaptations and cinematic lore, I find myself positively thrilled by the casting of Wendell Pierce as Perry White in the upcoming DC Studios’ Superman film. With his distinguished acting career spanning decades, from The Wire to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Pierce brings a depth and gravitas that will undoubtedly breathe new life into the character.

Attention! Attention! Get your news here! Wendell Pierce shares an exclusive reveal about a character missing from the blockbuster initial Superman trailer: Perry White, the bold chief editor of Metropolis’ Daily Planet newspaper. Although the team at Daily Planet made a brief appearance in a sneak peek teaser with Clark Kent (David Corenswet) and Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan), along with Jimmy Olsen (Skyler Gisondo), Cat Grant (Mikaela Hoover), Ron Troupe (Christopher McDonald), and Steve Lombard (Beck Bennett), Perry White was notably absent from the first release.

Freshly released is a glimpse of the actor from The Wire, sporting a cigar and wearing a sweater vest, in the role of the chief, as shared by Pierce on social platforms.

Perry White, a character known for his exclamation “Great Caesar’s ghost,” has been portrayed by various actors throughout different adaptations of Superman. Starting with Julian Noa in the 1940s radio serial and John Hamilton in the 1950s TV show, we’ve seen Lane Smith on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Michael McKean on Smallville, and Paul Jarrett in an episode of Superman & Lois.

In the movie Superman, James Gunn – DC Studios co-chairman and CEO – takes on both writing and directing duties. The cast includes Nicholas Hoult, who plays Superman’s archrival Lex Luthor (CEO of LuthorCorp), Pruitt Taylor Vince as Pa Kent, Neva Howell as Ma Kent, Terence Rosemore portraying a character named Otis (an ally to Lex), and Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, another ally for Lex. The roles of Juror #2, Lady in the Lake, Greedy People, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 are filled by Hoult, Vince, Howell, Rosemore, and Sampaio respectively.

Completing the ensemble are corporate-backed superheroes Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan), and Nathan Fillion as the Guy Gardner Green Lantern, with María Gabriela de Faría from _Deadly Class_ playing Angela Spica/The Engineer of The Authority. Additionally, Frank Grillo returns to his role as Rick Flag Sr., previously seen in DC’s _Creature Commandos_.

In the debut movie from DC Studios, the director responsible for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy and DC’s The Suicide Squad is set to reinterpret the classic superhero in a fresh take on the DC Universe. This new Superman is characterized by a mix of grand action, humor, and emotional depth, with a Superman who’s motivated by empathy and faith in humanity’s goodness, according to Warner Bros. Pictures. James Gunn and Peter Safran (Aquaman) are producers on the project, while Nikolas Korda (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2), Chantal Nong Vo (The Batman), and Lars Winther (Peacemaker) serve as executive producers.

DC Studios’ Superman soars into theaters July 11, 2025.
