The question isn’t if there will be a season 16 of Supernatural, but when it will happen. While fans would be thrilled to see the Winchester brothers back on TV, it’s important to remember that many people feel the show’s quality declined after the first five seasons.
There are some issues with the later seasons of Supernatural that simply can’t be fixed. It’s impossible to go back to when the show was just about hunting monsters each week, or when Sam and Dean didn’t have a close relationship with God. However, some of the other problems fans had with the show were actually addressed even before season 16 was announced.
Supernatural Season 16 Needs Bobby Singer
The show Supernatural noticeably changed after Bobby Singer died in season 7. Although Jim Beaver made occasional appearances, Bobby’s death meant he couldn’t be a central figure in the story anymore.
The show Supernatural truly shined when Bobby Singer was around to guide Sam and Dean. He balanced their often-intense lives with his dry wit and level-headedness, and he fit seamlessly into their hunting team. If you think of Star Trek, Sam and Dean were like Captain Kirk, Castiel was Spock, and Bobby played the role of Dr. McCoy – the one who always offered a practical, human perspective.
Thankfully, Supernatural season 16 can return Bobby to his familiar role.
Bobby Singer Can Be A Main Character In Supernatural Season 16
In the final season of Supernatural, Dean and Bobby are happily reunited in Heaven. Jack frees Bobby from being held there, and Bobby explains that Heaven has changed. Thanks to Jack and Castiel, it’s no longer a place of repeating memories, but a true afterlife where everyone can live together.
According to Bobby, the barrier between Heaven and Earth has been broken. If Dean returns to Earth at the start of season 16 of Supernatural, that means Bobby could come with him. Even if Bobby prefers staying in Heaven, he’s still able to offer guidance and help whenever needed.
Now that the strict angelic security in Heaven has been lifted, Sam and Dean can easily connect with people there, and even welcome old friends like Bobby back into the action. While Heaven isn’t completely open to everyone, Bobby can now offer his help and expertise on hunts whenever it’s needed on Earth.
A great example of this is the show The Winchesters. This series, which acts as both a prequel and a spin-off, takes place in the 1970s and follows Dean as he encounters his parents while they hunt monsters called the Akrida – creatures left behind by God. When things get difficult, Bobby Singer is there to assist and help resolve the problems.
The show The Winchesters demonstrated that a partnership between the Winchester and Singer families can work, which sets the stage for Bobby Singer to return to his familiar supportive role if Supernatural ever comes back for a sixteenth season.
