Surprise Anime Trailer Reveal Sparks Fan Excitement

2026 is shaping up to be a fantastic year for anime! We’ve already seen a strong start with exciting sequels and new shows in January. Popular series like Jujutsu Kaisen, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, and Hell’s Paradise have returned, and hidden gems like Journal the Witch are gaining a following. Now that the Winter 2026 season is underway, anime fans are looking forward to the Spring 2026 lineup, which will bring even more new series in April.

The new anime season is shaping up to be fantastic, with returning favorites like Classroom of the Elite and Wistoria: Wand and Sword. Fans are also eagerly anticipating the premiere of Witch Hat Atelier, a fantasy series adapted from the popular manga by Kamome Shirahama. The studio behind Witch Hat Atelier, Twin Engine, gained significant recognition with their original film, Cosmic Princess Kaguya, and is already generating buzz. In addition to Witch Hat Atelier, Twin Engine will also release Nippon Sangoku in Spring 2026. The trailer for Nippon Sangoku, revealed on January 27th, 2026, quickly gained traction online due to its impressive animation. Despite the source manga not being widely known, the trailer surprised and excited anime fans with its unique and visually stunning adaptation.

What Is Nippon Sangoku About?

This story, inspired by Ikka Matsuki’s popular manga, takes place in a future Japan that has been completely transformed. Following a period of collapse during the Reiwa Era – caused by war, disasters, and corruption – the country fractured into three powerful factions. With diplomacy failing, these factions are locked in a constant struggle for dominance, each using its military might and limited resources to control what remains of Japan.

The story centers on Aoteru Misumi, an ordinary official destined to become a legendary military strategist. He aims to end the chaos of the Three Kingdoms period and reunite Japan. Unlike most leaders, Aoteru doesn’t come from a powerful family or noble background – he’s always been a quiet observer. But seeing the constant suffering around him, he’s driven to act. Without the support of any powerful group, Aoteru must depend on his own intuition and ability to inspire others to join his cause.

The anime’s streaming home hasn’t been announced yet, but Crunchyroll is the most probable option. While an English version of the manga isn’t available, you can read the original Japanese manga online at Ura Sunday.
