2025 sees a mix of familiar favorites and fresh content on Netflix’s TV schedule, with “North of North,” starring Anna Lambe, being one of the highlights. I had the pleasure to interview Lambe who shared her surprise upon learning that the new comedy made it to Netflix’s Top 10 list.
In an interview with TopMob, Lambe, who portrays Siaja in “North of North“, discussed the unexpected success of the show and how it took everyone by surprise. She confessed that she had hoped the series would strike a chord with certain viewers and receive positive feedback, but she never fathomed it would garner the popularity it has seen over the past week.
My method was essentially: “I simply hoped people would see it and appreciate it. I had faith that they would like it. In fact, I was quite certain we produced a quality show, one that could touch people deeply. However, the sheer number of people who have fallen in love with it and become devoted fans has been more than I ever anticipated. Not just surprising, but almost unbelievable, as if this project is gaining momentum beyond anything I had dared to hope or dream for. I didn’t want to establish any expectations or create a preconceived notion of what ‘above North’ would be like. So each positive review, comment, and kind word feels like an unexpected delight.
As a film enthusiast, I can’t help but be captivated by the exceptional TV series, “North of North,” which has skyrocketed to fame with a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Since its debut on April 10th, this heartwarming sitcom about a young Inuk mother embarking on a journey of self-discovery in the imagined Arctic town of Ice Cove has consistently graced Netflix’s Top 10 list. Over the past few days, it has shifted positions, but its allure remains unwavering.
Over the past month, Netflix has unveiled numerous significant releases such as the long-awaited “Black Mirror” Season 7 and soon, the much-anticipated last season of “You”. However, amidst these big titles, “North of North” has managed to stand out as a popular addition to Netflix’s comedy collection.
As a movie enthusiast, I must say that what sets this series apart is its genuine and side-splitting depiction of Indigenous culture. It’s not merely a victory for representation; it’s genuinely hilarious, packed with unpredictable twists, tangled love stories, and the perfect blend of emotional depth that resonates deeply. In essence, it embodies everything a captivating Netflix sensation should offer.
Anna Lambe, who has been acting for more than five years and was recently part of “True Detective: Night Country”, is making her debut as the lead in “North of North”. Her performance in the series is captivating everyone, both viewers and critics, and it’s evident that she’s basking in well-earned limelight.
Currently, there’s no announcement for a second season of “North of North,” but considering its strong performance, it seems imminent. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can catch all eight episodes on Netflix with a subscription. Trust me, it’s definitely worth your time.
