Surprise! ‘Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater’ grabs the Xbox Play Anywhere tag, joining other Konami titles like Silent Hill 2 and ƒ

Surprise! Metal Gear Solid 3 remake is now available on Xbox Play Anywhere.

Metal Gear Solid 3 is a highly acclaimed stealth action game, often considered the best in the Metal Gear Solid series. Created by Hideo Kojima and Konami, the game is set during the Cold War and tells the story of Big Boss, known as Snake, during the beginning of his career.

This earlier game reveals major details about the complex plot that made the Metal Gear series so famous. It’s been available on today’s gaming systems through updated versions for both consoles and computers.

Following a difficult split with creator Hideo Kojima, Konami is working to revitalize the Metal Gear series. We previously revealed their plans, and now we’re seeing it come to fruition with the release of the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection and a complete remake of Metal Gear Solid 3, titled Delta: Snake Eater. Developed by Konami and Virtuous, this remake faithfully recreates the original game with updated graphics, and it will also include modern features like cross-buy compatibility.

Good news for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater fans! Thanks to a heads-up from HazzadorGamin, the game is now part of the Xbox Play Anywhere program. Initially, it appeared on the Xbox PC store without this feature, leading to some uncertainty. But it’s been added, meaning you can buy it once and play across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, and Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Xbox Play Anywhere now offers over 1,000 games, which is a huge benefit, especially for devices like the Xbox Ally. Buy a game once and you can play it on multiple devices – including your Xbox Series X|S console, PC, and often through Xbox Cloud Gaming. Cloud Gaming, included with Xbox Game Pass, allows you to stream and play demanding games on phones and TVs without needing powerful hardware.

There’s a growing expectation that PlayStation will offer a program allowing players to purchase a game once and play it on both their PS5 console and PC, but it’s still uncertain if this will actually happen.

More good news for Xbox Play Anywhere, and the Xbox Ally initiative

Ever since I got the Xbox Ally, I’ve been playing games mostly on a handheld device. My Xbox and TV are upstairs at my desk, so having the Ally lets me play comfortably on the couch or even in bed, which has definitely increased how much I play.

As a huge Xbox fan, I’ve been really impressed with how well the Xbox Ally handles Remote Play – especially when my Wi-Fi is solid. But honestly, being able to play games directly on the device is a game-changer when I’m away from home and a good connection isn’t available. And let me tell you, whenever a game gets the Xbox Play Anywhere treatment, it instantly jumps to the top of my list – I’m way more likely to buy and play it!

Recently, Microsoft has been promoting Red Dead Redemption on the Xbox PC store. However, it’s disappointing to note that the game isn’t included in the Xbox Play Anywhere program, which allows you to play on both your console and PC with one purchase. Usually, games not part of this program are marked with a (PC) tag.

Microsoft faces a major challenge in getting large, well-known game studios to adopt Xbox Play Anywhere. While Japanese developers such as Sega, Square Enix, and Konami have enthusiastically embraced the program, major Western publishers like EA, Ubisoft, and Take-Two Interactive have shown little interest.

The next Xbox is likely to prioritize PC gaming, which could create some complications. Games developed for Xbox Series X|S that aren’t part of the Xbox Play Anywhere program might only be playable on older Xbox consoles. As Microsoft shifts players towards gaming on Xbox PCs, it’s increasingly important to include popular games like Metal Gear Solid Delta in the Xbox Play Anywhere program, allowing access across both platforms.
