I’ve only experienced one installment of Prince of Persia, unlike many others who have a rich history with the 3D action-adventure series. However, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown during my review. Now, I find myself presented with another enticing Prince of Persia game to explore.
The New 2D Roguelike Game Set in Persia, titled “The Hidden Prince,” boasts swift action combat and platforming mechanics. Despite being available for over a year via early access, it managed to elude my attention entirely. Now, unexpectedly, the complete game has appeared, silently “Shadow Dropping” onto Xbox, PlayStation, Windows PC, and even Xbox Game Pass.
As an enthusiast, one glimpse was enough for me to add this game to my wishlist! And let’s face it, being a surprise day-1 addition to Game Pass just amplifies the excitement. Still on the fence? Give the launch trailer a watch and I guarantee you’ll be hooked!
Stuck in a time loop with only one way out
In a twist typical of rogue-lite games, the Wayward Prince from Persia narrates a tale revolving around time loops. As the prince, you’re haunted by the blunders that caused the downfall of your people and empire, and even in death, you find no escape from this cycle of suffering.
Currently, your task is to delve into a decaying metropolis overrun by corrupt forces, where each life you experience (and end) offers fresh insights for your future endeavors. You won’t merely accumulate wisdom between lives, but also can liberate people from a time bind and acquire novel skills and possibilities through these bonds.
As a game analyst, I find myself immersed in the exhilarating world of the Prince of Persia, where speed and intensity are the norm. This agile protagonist effortlessly combines evasive maneuvers, parries, wall runs, acrobatic flips and jumps, swift attacks, and more to navigate the perilous, trap-filled landscapes and vanquish an array of formidable adversaries.
Additionally, you have the freedom to mold the agile gameplay according to your personal flair, as there are more than 100 distinct weapons and medallions at your disposal. Frankly, the gameplay appears captivating to me, and I can’t wait to immerse myself in it personally.
An exciting (and surprising) new Prince of Persia arrival

Playing Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown was an absolute blast with its emphasis on platforming within the Metroidvania genre, and I can’t hide my excitement about the prospect of another 2D Prince of Persia title set in a similar yet unique gaming style.
As a curious onlooker, I eagerly anticipate the persistence of tough platforming sequences and intense combat encounters. However, what truly piques my curiosity is the evolution of the roguelike mechanics across repeated playthroughs, and the innovative paths you might explore for customizing one’s build. Above all, though, I am smitten by this art style and the fluidity it exudes as it moves dynamically.
The Rogue Prince of Persia, although not entirely novel since it spent over a year in early access on Steam, still managed to catch many off guard with its sudden release – particularly unexpected was its simultaneous launch across multiple platforms, and notably, on Xbox and PC Game Pass.
I’ve got quite a few more games from 2025 that I’m looking forward to playing, such as The Alters, Ruffy and the Riverside, Kulebra and the Souls of Limbo, DOOM: The Dark Ages, Eternal Strands, and the combined package of Heretic and Hexen.
This year has been quite packed with gaming releases, and there’s even more exciting content coming up, such as Keeper and The Outer Worlds 2. Finding time to play The Rogue Prince of Persia might prove challenging, but I believe it will be well worth the investment.
Should you be on board, you’re now free to enjoy The Rogue Prince of Persia on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Game Pass. Rumors suggest that a Nintendo Switch adaptation will follow at a later stage.
