Survival RPG Everwind Delivers Dungeon Crawls, Airships, & Cute Capybaras In A Vast Open World (Preview)

Games such as Minecraft and Hytale are incredibly popular because they let players build and create almost anything. If you enjoy those games and also like role-playing games, you might already know about Everwind. This new open-world RPG, built with voxels, has gained a lot of attention—over 850,000 people have added it to their wishlists on Steam before it’s even available in Early Access. If you haven’t heard of it yet, let me tell you about this exciting new take on the sandbox survival RPG genre.

Everwind really impressed people at the Steam Next Fest in October 2025, and now it’s almost here! The Early Access launch is scheduled for March 17th. I recently got a preview of the game with the developers, Enjoy Studio S.A. and Bohemia Interactive, and I’ve been playing the Early Access build. What makes Everwind different from other survival RPGs is immediately clear: it features airships, adorable capybaras, and a deep, customizable skill system.

Everwind Builds on the Minecraft Formula With Dungeon Crawls & Airship Travel

The pixel art in Everwind immediately brings Minecraft to mind, and at its core, the gameplay shares some similarities – you can destroy almost anything to gather materials and learn how to build. However, Everwind impressed people at the Steam Next Fest because it also introduces unique features that make it stand out as a new and interesting survival game.

The airships are a great feature of Everwind. It took me a little while to figure out how to get my first one – definitely my fault for not understanding the tutorial! Once you claim and customize your airship during the early quests, the game world expands significantly. You can travel to new islands and face new challenges. Just be warned: dying means losing a good portion of your collected items – something I may or may not have learned the hard way a few times.

Whether you’re building a basic raft or a complex airship, this game lets you truly explore its vast, randomly generated world, filled with resources, creatures, and dungeons. Luckily, a compass and spyglass are there to guide you. As you venture higher into the sky, monsters and dungeons become more challenging – and offer better rewards – creating a rewarding sense of progress even though the game is still in development.

Beyond exploring the world by airship, Everwind features RPG elements that allow you to develop your character. You’ll earn experience points by defeating enemies and collecting items, which you can then use to unlock new abilities in a skill tree. You can also enhance your gear with a Rune system. While the game doesn’t force you into a specific class, you can choose from a variety of weapons to create your own unique combat style – and yes, that includes magical weapons and staves for those who prefer casting spells. I didn’t find these early on, but after seeing them during a preview, I’m excited to discover all the magic the game has to offer.

On top of its in-depth RPG features and airships, Everwind has another delightful surprise. The game world is full of creatures you can defeat for resources like healing meat. However, you might think twice before attacking the adorable capybaras! These pixel-art critters have become a fan favorite since the game’s demo, and after playing, it’s easy to see why.

Even in Early Access, Everwind Offers an Engaging Gameplay Loop With Just the Right Amount of Random

I often find games like Minecraft a little overwhelming because they let you do absolutely anything, which can be tough. But Everwind feels different – it gives you a lot of freedom, which I love, but it also eases you in with a few helpful quests at the beginning. I did run into a couple of small issues – sometimes the quest markers disappeared when I got to where I needed to go. I actually missed an airship at one point and was a bit stuck! But honestly, I really appreciated that little bit of guidance to help me learn the ropes and get ready to explore.

Everwind immediately draws you in with its focus on discovery. You’ll spot distant islands that you can travel to, each offering a unique mix of enemies, loot, and items. Finding treasure and dismantling structures is genuinely rewarding, and the game provides a good challenge without being overly difficult at the beginning. The unpredictable nature of each island keeps things interesting, and being able to craft and improve your base makes exploring even more satisfying.

The game features diverse environments, ranging from different types of landscapes, which prevents the world from feeling repetitive. Each area has its own distinct look and atmosphere, creating a sense of scale and variety. This makes the game world feel full and engaging, even though it’s still in development.

Everwind, a new sandbox RPG survival game, is launching in Early Access on Steam on March 17th and looks very promising! Players can choose between two editions: the Standard Edition for $24.99 or the special Capybara Edition for $49.99. The Capybara Edition includes unique capybara-themed items like outfits, furniture, and balloon skins. By joining the Early Access program, you can help shape the game’s development with your feedback and be among the first to experience this new take on voxel-based survival.
