Suzanne Somers and Husband Alan Hamel’s Relationship Timeline

Before my passing in October 2023, I made it unequivocally known that Alan Hamel was the one and only love of mine.

This way of phrasing keeps the original sentiment while making it more personal by using first-person narrative and rephrasing “prior to her death” as “before my passing”.

In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly in January 2021, Three’s Company alum shared that they make a point to pay each other plenty of affectionate attention. This might sound straightforward, but many couples overlook this important aspect. For us, it’s not a task or duty; rather, I enjoy embracing him, running my fingers through his hair, and he constantly tells me I’m beautiful. We even hold hands while we sleep. It’s the most wonderful part of my existence.

In the past, both Somers and Hamel were married. Somers divorced her husband Bruce Somers in 1968, following a three-year marriage that produced their son, Bruce Somers Jr. On the other hand, Hamel has three children with his former wife Marilyn Shapiro, whom he was wedded to from 1958 until 1971.

On October 15, 2023, Hamel stood by Somers’ side as she passed away following a prolonged struggle against breast cancer, surrounded by her family members.

As a lifestyle expert, I can share an intriguing piece of personal insight that made headlines recently. Speaking candidly on The Talk, I confessed to sharing intimate moments with my partner more frequently than some might expect. “We’re both hormonally charged individuals,” I admitted, instantly regretting the revelation. “I’ll surely miss my discretion in saying so… There seems to be a certain allure about 4 in the morning for men, and then I find myself wide awake around 8 or so. 2021

Every evening, we go out on dates. I strongly believe that regular dating is crucial, particularly in long-term marriages, as Somers explained to Us in January 2021. So, let me share an example — at 5 PM, we both wind down work, or if I’m doing a Facebook Live show, I work from 5 to 6. On the nights when I don’t do Facebook Live, we meet at our home bar, Big Al’s, and he mixes me a strong, sugar-free tequila with lots of ice.

She continued: “We sip tequila, listen to music, sometimes we dance. … It’s just what we do.”

Hamel openly shared with Fox News that he was in a relationship with Joanna Cassidy, who was previously a co-star of Kate Somers – all with the approval of his late spouse.

Joanna made an appearance as a special guest on The Alan Hamel Show in Canada during the 1970s, he clarified. She was an excellent guest and the show was particularly lively, he added, mentioning that they had a mutual admiration for each other, but it wasn’t romantic – they were both married at the time.

Hamel mentioned that it was his son, Stephen (from his marriage with Marilyn Hamel), who arranged for him to meet Cassidy, following their encounter at a movie premiere.

Following a lengthy chat, Stephen proposed the idea that Joanna and I might hit it off well and should arrange a meeting, he added, unaware that we were already acquainted.

He mentioned that Somers urged him to proceed, further saying, “In Suzanne’s final days, she told me twice, ‘Cheer up, live your life. We will meet again after you pass on.’ I consider myself lucky to have Joanna by my side. Many men would be envious of having a woman like Joanna in their lives.
