Suzanne Somers’ widower Alan Hamel is opening up about the last thing his late wife told him.

Somers died on October 15, 2023 at the age of 76 after a battle with cancer. 

As a die-hard admirer, I can’t help but share the heartfelt words of our beloved 88-year-old Canadian entertainer. In a recent disclosure, he confided that his devoted companion had encouraged him to embrace life freely and pursue happiness beyond their longstanding bond.

In her last days on Earth, when it became apparent that Suzanne wasn’t going to get better, she expressed to him before passing away, “Please don’t be sad and dwell on my absence once I’ve moved on,” he shared with People.

He mentioned, “I hadn’t come across the phrase ‘mope about’ until now. When I asked if it meant dwelling at home in self-pity, she responded by encouraging me to embrace life. She emphasized that I have a wonderful life, a fantastic family, and amazing friends. Her message was to seize every opportunity life offers.

Hamel turns 89 on June 30th, and mentioned that for the past 42 years, not a single hour has passed without us being together, and this wasn’t intentional.

He described their unbreakable bond as something they didn’t intentionally create. Instead, it naturally developed over time. It might seem unusual compared to most marriages, but it has proven to work effectively for them.

In the wake of his wife’s death, the former television host says he’s missed dating.

Alan recalled, ‘Suzanne and I went on dates a lot, at least once a week, sometimes twice a week.

We relished the experience of donning our finest attire, visiting an exquisite eatery, selecting a superb bottle of wine, basking in the soft glow of candles, and spending a delightful evening together, gazing deep into one another’s eyes.

He has recently taken up companionship with Joanna Cassidy, his co-star from Sharon Gless’s Hollywood Wives series. They were seen together in Malibu just a few days ago.

Prior to that, he was seen wining and dining two women in December 2024.

The celebrity shared with People magazine that he chose to date two women simultaneously during their outing to avoid potential negative headlines: “I didn’t want one woman sitting there with me because the story that might get published wouldn’t be favorable, so I opted for dating both of them at once.

Approximately one and a half years had elapsed since Suzanne had left us, and when you spotted the three of us dining in a restaurant, it might have appeared as if we were attending a business meeting. I found myself comfortable with this impression.

He pointed out that the gathering was not a romantic affair: ‘What became clear to me was my immense enjoyment of dining with two fantastic ladies. There’s no romance involved, merely deep and lasting friendships.’

He made clear that it was more than just an ordinary outing; it was a dinner date at an elegant French restaurant. To put it simply, all three of us were partaking in an unconventional form of dating with unique aspects. When there are two instead of one, the dynamics certainly change.

There’s no need for unease; they are simply three long-time friends enjoying their company together.

In conversation with Page Six regarding his latest association with Joanna, the once-prominent figure of Hollywood expressed, “I consider myself lucky to have Joanna in my life. Many men would be thrilled to have someone like Joanna in their lives.

Reframing the situation and mindful of his wife, he remarked, ‘I’m unsure about the future of this relationship, but what I am certain of is that I’m in the twilight years of my life, and thanks to Suzanne, I have been extremely fortunate to live a privileged life and run a business we started half a century ago.’
