The Galápagos Islands are made up of over 120 islands, but only four are currently home to people. Many of the islands are too small to support any population. These inhabited islands are Santa Cruz, San Cristobel, Isabela, and Floreana. The film Eden, directed by Ron Howard, tells the story of how Floreana first became populated. It’s not a widely known film, though—it was shown in only 664 theaters and earned about $1.5 million domestically. This is surprising, considering the film features a very talented cast, one of the best of 2025.
I was really surprised to see the cast Howard assembled for his latest! It’s got Jude Law, who I loved as Yon-Rogg in Captain Marvel, Vanessa Kirby from Fantastic Four, Daniel Brühl who was great in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and even Sydney Sweeney of Madame Web and Ana de Armas, who’s set to star in Ballerina. It didn’t do amazingly well in cinemas, but it’s actually doing really well in some international markets – it’s free if you’re a Prime Video subscriber over there. Here in the US, you can only rent it on Amazon right now. Interestingly, another Ron Howard film is having a moment – How the Grinch Stole Christmas is currently at number four on the charts!
Where Is Eden Doing Well?

The movie Eden is currently second in the worldwide Top 10 on Prime Video, but it’s the most popular movie in several countries, like Denmark, New Zealand, Norway, and the Philippines.
Currently, the top 10 movies worldwide are led by the romance drama Our Fault, followed by Eden and Shane Black’s Play Dirty. Rounding out the top ten are Culpa tuya, Culpa Mia, Breathe (starring Milla Jovovich), the sci-fi film Invasion, Tyler Perry’s Finding Joy, the James Bond film No Time to Die (featuring Ana de Armas, also in Eden), and Hedda.
Despite receiving mixed reviews – currently at 58% on Rotten Tomatoes – Howard’s film is actually quite enjoyable. While some critics noted it leans towards being overly dramatic, it’s a fun exploration of how quickly people will turn on each other when isolated together.
