Sydney Sweeney Makes Rare Comments About Ex-Fiancé Jonathan Davino

Sydney Sweeney knows that breakups suck.

As someone who often talks about relationships and life in the public eye, I’ve been thinking a lot about breakups lately. It’s been almost a year since I ended my engagement with Jonathan Davino, and it’s definitely been a journey navigating that split with so much attention on us. It’s a really unique challenge when your personal life plays out so publicly, and I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting on that experience.

Sydney recently revealed in an interview with Cosmopolitan that she kept her seven-and-a-half-year relationship completely private. She explained that she valued having personal boundaries and preferred to keep some aspects of her life to herself, so no one ever saw her with her partner.

Despite being in the public eye, and after being seen with Scooter Braun since June, the 29-year-old is simply trying to determine what’s right for her personally.

She admitted it’s challenging to please everyone when everyone has different ideas about what’s right. She also shared that after dedicating her twenties to her career, she now wants to enjoy life and new experiences. However, she’s hesitant about pursuing romantic relationships publicly and is simply trying to figure things out as she goes.

But exploring new relationships isn’t easy for the Syrn founder.

After spending months feeling really down and crying, I finally asked my friends for advice on dating. I was completely new to it – I’d never even been on a date or used a dating app. My friends outside the entertainment industry suggested just meeting people when they went out, but that doesn’t really work for me. It’s not easy to just meet someone at a bar when you’re in this industry.

Sydney is definitely open to finding a perfect relationship when the time feels right. She actually described the idea as liberating.

She described a feeling of being truly in love, comparing it to a scene from The Princess Diaries. She recalled Anne Hathaway’s character experiencing a physical sensation – her foot flipping up – when kissing her true love. She explained that’s how love feels: like something magical happening, like the over-the-top moments you see in Disney movies, with lights turning on and everything around you coming to life.

While Sydney ushers in a new era, keep reading for a look back at her relationship with Jonathan.

Sydney Sweeney, known for her role in Euphoria, and Jonathan Davino were first linked romantically in 2018. They were seen together at multiple events, including a Hulu Emmy party in Los Angeles, which initially fueled dating speculation.

The pair were photographed at the InStyle and Kate Spade dinner in Beverly Hills.

A year after that, the actress from Anyone But You and her boyfriend went to a New York Knicks game in New York City.

The couple took a relaxed trip to a West Hollywood flea market several weeks before their engagement.

In a 2022 interview with Cosmopolitan, Sydney shared that she prefers to date people outside of the entertainment industry. She explained that avoiding actors, musicians, and other public figures allows her to simply be herself and keep things uncomplicated.

Sydney says she wants a partner who feels like a best friend – someone she can comfortably spend all her time with, enjoy being around constantly, and share a lot of laughs with every day.

The actress from The White Lotus and her fiancé kept the good times rolling with a stylish visit to the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.

The adorable couple, dressed in coordinating black outfits, made an appearance at an event during the Venice Film Festival in Italy.

Back in New York City, the twosome were spotted walking Sydney’s dog Tank.

The couple, known for making the films Anyone But You and Immaculate, were seen holding hands after enjoying a romantic dinner in Paris.

Sydney shared with Glamour UK in 2023 that combining work and a romantic relationship was wonderful. She explained it’s fantastic to collaborate with someone who truly understands and champions your ideas and perspective.

Sydney and her partner were back at the Venice Film Festival in 2024. She’d previously told Entertainment Tonight that wedding plans were on hold because she was too busy with work.

During a rare outing in winter 2025, the couple partook in a cheeky snowball fight in New York.

I was absolutely devastated to hear the news back in March 2025 – Sydney and Jonathan, together for seven years, had broken up and called off their engagement! It just… it didn’t seem real. I’ve been following them forever, and I honestly thought they were endgame. It was all over the news, and I just couldn’t believe it.

Shortly before news of their split became public, Sydney was seen at a wedding with Glen Powell—the actor she was first linked to romantically during promotion for their 2023 movie, Anyone But You. However, Glen’s mother, Cyndy Powell, quickly dismissed the relationship rumors, telling the Daily Mail in 2025 that Sydney is just a family friend.
