Sydney Sweeney Set to Return for The Housemaid Sequel

Sydney Sweeney isn’t done playing house.

Following her role in the film version of Freida McFadden’s book, The Housemaid, the actress will be back for a sequel. Lionsgate announced on January 6th that she’ll be joined by her costar Michele Morrone and director Paul Feig, with filming expected to start later this year.

Oh my gosh, you guys, I’m SO excited for the next movie! Remember Sydney as Millie in the first one? She was amazing as this maid who went to work for Nina Winchester – Amanda Seyfried, of course, who is PERFECTION – and her family. It was so twisty and suspenseful, and Millie ended up finding out all sorts of dark things about them! Now, the sequel, The Housemaid’s Secret, is going to be based on the second book, so get ready for even MORE secrets and drama! I’ve already pre-ordered the book, and I’m counting down the days!

As a lifestyle expert, I wasn’t at all surprised to hear that the star of Euphoria signed on for The Housemaid. She recently shared that when she first read the script, she was completely hooked and couldn’t stop reading – honestly, a great script is the best reason to take on a new project!

She immediately loved the script. ‘As soon as I read it, I thought it would be incredibly enjoyable for everyone,’ she explained to TopMob News at the film’s New York premiere in December. ‘I was excited to be involved from the very beginning.’

Sydney, who is also an executive producer for both this film and its next installment, said adapting The Housemaid for the big screen was “an incredibly exciting experience.”

I, along with everyone else involved, absolutely adored the book! We’re all incredibly passionate about this project, and honestly, we can’t wait to share it with the world. It’s just so exciting to finally be bringing this story to life.

Although it’s currently unknown if Amanda, age 40, will be in The Housemaid’s Secret again, she recently mentioned she’d be open to appearing in a follow-up movie.

Amanda recently told Variety that she expects to make a brief appearance in a new project. It centers around Syd and her new job with a family, and Amanda is particularly excited about the storyline involving Michele’s character, Enzo. She’s eager to see how Enzo maintains control over Nina Winchester, saying she’d be thrilled to reprise her role if given the chance.

With the popularity of book adaptations on TV and in movies continuing to rise, The Housemaid is the latest example. If you’re interested in other books recently adapted for the screen, check out the following titles.

Directed by Chloé Zhao, who also co-wrote the screenplay with O’Farrell, the film promises to be a powerful and unforgettable experience.

What makes this project especially interesting? Tom Bateman is married to Daisy Ridley, who played Rey in Star Wars—the novel actually started as fanfiction inspired by Rey and Kylo Ren! With this connection and Reinhart’s involvement, it’s a pairing that has us eagerly anticipating the premiere.
