Sydney Sweeney will star in a new movie based on Edith Wharton’s novel, The Custom of the Country.
Studiocanal and Rabbit’s Foot Films (founded by Charles Finch) are partnering to produce the movie. Josie Rourke will both direct and adapt the novel for the screen, and filming is set to start soon.
The novel centers on Undine Spragg, a woman who pursues social status in New York City’s high society through multiple marriages and divorces. Author Rourke characterizes Spragg as a captivating and alluring, yet dangerous, woman – “the original dangerous woman.” She also highly commends Wharton’s novel, noting its significant impact on both American and European audiences.
