Sydney Sweeney’s thriller, The Housemaid, continues to do well in theaters after almost a month, highlighting how poorly Madame Web has performed. The Housemaid, based on Freida McFadden’s popular novel, was a surprising success at the end of 2025, with critics particularly praising the performances of Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, as well as the film’s clever use of thriller conventions.
The thriller The Housemaid continues to perform well in theaters, earning almost $200 million around the world. Since its release four weeks ago, it has consistently ranked among the top five films, recently reaching the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. It’s maintained this success despite competition from new movies like Primate and Greenland 2: Migration, and even while Avatar: Fire and Ash remained the top-grossing film.
Lionsgate announced that the thriller The Housemaid has now earned over $200 million worldwide. It recently surpassed $100 million internationally and also reached $100 million in domestic earnings, leading to this new achievement.
Lionsgate has had another success with The Housemaid, which has earned over $200 million worldwide. This follows the strong performance of Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, the latest film in the popular magic-themed action series, which made over $241 million and received excellent reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.
The movie The Housemaid is performing exceptionally well in theaters, quickly becoming one of Sydney Sweeney’s most successful films and ending a run of box office disappointments. This losing streak started with her widely criticized superhero movie, Madame Web, and The Housemaid has already earned twice as much money in less than a month. Previously, Madame Web was Sweeney’s third-highest-grossing film, earning $100 million, a record The Housemaid broke within just three weeks of release.
As The Housemaid‘s time in theaters winds down, it doesn’t appear it will surpass the box office totals of Margot Robbie’s other two biggest hits, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood and Anyone but You. Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, Quentin Tarantino’s love letter to old Hollywood, is currently the highest-grossing film with over $377 million, and the Anyone but You remake of a Shakespeare story has earned almost $219 million.
Even if it doesn’t climb any higher on the charts, The Housemaid is a clear success for Sydney Sweeney and Lionsgate, and suggests the upcoming sequel (based on the author’s second book) will also do well. With potential roles in Devil Wears Prada 2, Gundam, and Split Fiction also in the works, Sweeney has many opportunities to continue her recent success at the box office.
