I’m so excited for Sydney Sweeney! It looks like her new thriller is really connecting with audiences – the Rotten Tomatoes score just dropped, and it’s surprisingly good! It’s great to see her in something that people are really enjoying.
As of today, the movie The Housemaid has a positive score of 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 61 critic reviews. This is a significant improvement for the actress, as her previous films haven’t performed as well – some were poorly reviewed, while others barely qualified as “fresh.” She started the year with Echo Valley, which received a 52% rating, but her recent movies, including Americana, have seen her ratings climb, earning “fresh” designations with scores of 66% and 64% respectively.
Most reviewers agree that director Paul Feig’s new film feels like a throwback to classic thrillers from before the age of streaming. In a review for Bloody Disgusting, Meagan Navarro praised the film’s over-the-top twists, calling them “delightfully deranged” and highlighting how they allow Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney to deliver a wildly entertaining, funny, and violent performance.
The Housemaid to Be a Guilty Pleasure for Families Over the Holidays
In a review for USA Today, Brian Truitt predicted that The Housemaid would be a “fun, easy watch” for many moviegoers over the holidays. Graeme Guttmann of Screen Rant went further, calling the thriller “one of the most enjoyable films of 2025.” Another critic praised the movie as a “well-made and intelligent” version of the source material.
Inspired by the popular novel, The Housemaid takes viewers into a deceptive world where appearances can be deceiving. Millie hopes for a fresh start when she takes a live-in housekeeper position with the affluent Winchesters, but the job soon turns dangerous. She finds herself caught in a web of secrets, scandal, and power, and the Winchesters’ seemingly perfect life hides shocking twists that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Okay, so Anya Taylor-Joy is absolutely fantastic as Nina, and she’s joined by a really great cast. Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar play Nina and Andrew Winchester, and you’ve also got Elizabeth Perkins rounding things out – a solid lineup, honestly.
The Housemaid arrives in theaters on Dec. 19.
