As a huge fan, I’m so excited to hear that Nightdive Studios is bringing the 2023 System Shock remake to the Switch and the new Switch 2! They’ve announced it’ll be out sometime in 2025, and the Switch 2 version will even have the whole game right on the cartridge – that’s awesome!
The updated version of the game was initially released on PC through Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG on May 30, 2023. It then became available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on May 21, 2024.
Here is an overview of the game, via Nightdive Studos:
About
Nightdive Studios beautifully rebuilt the classic 1994 sci-fi action game, System Shock, and it was highly praised when it launched on computers in 2023 and consoles in 2024. Now, Nintendo Switch players will get to experience this iconic game for the first time, facing off against the powerful AI villain, SHODAN, as they explore the eerie Citadel Station.
The new System Shock remake reimagines the classic game with modern high-definition graphics, improved controls, and a redesigned interface, all accompanied by fresh sound and music. Players will explore Citadel Station, facing a host of dangerous, mutated creatures brought to life and controlled by the menacing AI, SHODAN. To escape, they’ll need to overcome traps, solve puzzles, uncover secrets, and rely on a mix of stealth, smarts, and powerful futuristic weapons.
While creating the game, Nightdive Studios collaborated with key members of the original System Shock development team, including Terri Brosius, who famously voiced the iconic villain SHODAN.
The Switch 2 and Switch versions of System Shock will offer several enhancements, including compatibility with the new Switch 2’s Joy-Con 2 mouse, gyro aiming, features requested by the game’s community, and support for 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second on the Switch 2.
