Team17 and BULKHEAD are creating WARDOGS, a large-scale, tactical first-person shooter that aims to offer a fresh experience in the genre. The game will first be available on PC through Steam’s Early Access program in 2026.
Here is an overview of the game, via its Steam page:
About
WARDOGS is a fast-paced, first-person shooter where up to 100 players battle it out using realistic weapons and vehicles. You can build fortifications and destroy the environment to gain an advantage in this large-scale, military-style sandbox.
Inspired by the classic “King of the Hill” game, this mode pits three teams against each other in a battle to control a randomly selected area on a large map. This “Control Zone” is relatively small—just 2x2km within a 256km² world—and the team with the most players inside it earns points. The first team to reach 100 points wins. Because the zone’s location changes each match and players use different strategies, every game is unique.
Persistent Cash Metagame
In WARDOGS—Every. Decision. Matters.
Players begin each game with $10,000. With that money, they buy personalized equipment – including weapons, gear, and vehicles – to give their team an edge and help them win.
You earn money for every team-oriented action you take, like reviving teammates, helping them reach the safe zone, or capturing objectives. We actively reward working together! Ultimately, it’s up to you how you play, earn money, and then spend it.
You keep the money you earn between battles, so smart spending on things like better gear or a vehicle can really help you win and give you a big advantage.

Play Your Way
You choose how you want to play and profit.
WARDOGS doesn’t force you to play a certain way. You have the freedom to tackle the Control Zone however you like. Whether you prefer to work solo and support your team, or join a dedicated squad, the choice is yours when it comes to how you play.
You have several ways to play: hunt for extra cash in the dangerous “Hot Zone,” become a long-range sniper with a ghillie suit, or deliver supplies to your team by helicopter. Alternatively, you can build a fortified base at a key location, or, if you prefer a more aggressive approach, control a powerful tank and bombard the enemy.
There aren’t any specific strategies you have to follow. How you tackle the situation is entirely up to you.
Destruction and Base Building
Bring the chaos to tactical warfare.
Okay, so in this game, you can go full-on destruction mode – I’m talking rocket launchers leveling buildings, or rolling through towns in a tank. Everything reacts to what you do! But if that’s not your style, you can team up with others and actually build stuff. We’re talking fortifying key spots on the map, making them super strong for a real tactical edge. It’s all about how you want to play.
100 Percent Player-Driven Sandbox
In WARDOGS, everything that happens is directly influenced by player actions, and players communicate using in-game voice chat – whether to coordinate with allies or playfully distract opponents. WARDOGS isn’t just another battle royale or extraction shooter; it’s a fresh, tactical take on the first-person shooter, emphasizing smart choices, teamwork, and communication, all within a realistic military world. You’re free to play the way you want.
