In the game Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, Croakmaws are a less common type of monster. While not overly difficult to find, they can be quite dangerous, particularly in the later stages of the game. Fortunately, Croakmaws give a good amount of experience points, making them ideal for quickly increasing your characters’ levels. If you’re looking to level up quickly in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, here’s where you can find and defeat these monsters.
Tainted Grail The Fall of Avalon Croakmaw Spawns
Croakmaws, like most creatures in the game, appear in specific locations consistently. They can be challenging to defeat, particularly when you first start playing with weaker equipment, but with the right strategy, you can reliably hunt them without getting defeated.
Horns of the South — Behind the Tomb of the Good Druid
You can find a Croakmaw in a small, wooded clearing north of the Horns of the South Keep. If you start at the Ancient Cromlech fast travel point, go southwest to the Tomb of the Good Druid, and then head around to the large area behind the tomb. The Croakmaw should be visible in the open.
Cuanacht — Below the Bridge
As you enter Cuanacht through the North Gate, close to the All-Mother’s Temple in the Horns of the South, you’ll find a wooden bridge spanning a deep ravine. After crossing the bridge, head down to the riverbed. You’ll discover a sleeping Croakmaw in an old, abandoned camp.
Cuanacht — Swamp
West of Cuanacht, you’ll find a swamp where another Croakmaw is sleeping in a shallow puddle. Check your map for a large skeleton – the Croakmaw is directly north of the skeleton’s tail, and a Croakmaw shrine is just to the west of it.
What are Croakmaws For?
As we discussed, defeating Croakmaws gives players a lot of experience points. They attack with both powerful sweeps and long-range attacks, so approach these fights cautiously.
Croakmaws reappear after 24 to 48 hours in the game. To farm them efficiently, place a bonfire close to where they spawn and rest until 10 PM in-game time. You’ll know it worked when you receive an ambush message, indicating the Croakmaw has respawned.
Besides gaining experience, you can find Croakmaw Shrines throughout the game. Offering parts from Croakmaw creatures to these shrines will grant you unique benefits. For instance, the shrine located near the Croakmaw in Cuanacht Swamp will increase your critical hit damage if you offer it a Croakmaw Horn.
Should You Pet Sleeping Croakmaws in Tainted Grail The Fall of Avalon?
You can earn an achievement by petting a sleeping Croakmaw in Cuanacht, but be careful! These creatures don’t like being disturbed, and waking one up results in a lost arm. Losing an arm means you won’t be able to use two-handed weapons or a shield, and unfortunately, your arm won’t grow back or be replaced.
