Trying to lose weight is so predictable. Starting a new language? Most people give up on apps like Duolingo pretty quickly. And tackling debt? Let’s be real, new expenses always seem to pop up.
Let’s ditch the usual New Year’s Resolutions! Instead, tell us what you plan to achieve on your PlayStation 5 in 2026.
Honestly, my gaming resolution can be pretty simple. Sometimes I just want to finally tackle that game I’ve been putting off forever – you know, the one that’s been staring at me from my library for ages! Other times, I get really motivated to hunt down even more Platinum Trophies than I did last year. And honestly? I’d love to break the habit of buying games just to buy them and actually play what I already own!
Here are some of ours.

To be honest, my New Year’s resolution is the same as usual: I want to actually finish the games I start playing. I often get about 10 hours into a game and then lose interest and move on, which could be because of my job or just a short attention span. For 2026, I’m determined to stick with games and see them through to the end.

My main goal for the next year is to finally play the games I’ve been putting off. I fell behind at the beginning of 2025 and haven’t been able to keep up with my gaming list. I really want to make progress on some of the longer, more involved games I’ve started, and I also want to be able to enjoy new releases as they come out.
I also want to replay both Last of Us games on the PS5. I’m currently playing through Part 2, so I’m confident I’ll get to it soon.
I’ve been really slacking on my PSVR2 lately, and I need to fix that. I love using it to get a workout in with rhythm games, and I want to make it a regular thing again instead of just playing every now and then. It’s a fun way to exercise, and I miss it when I don’t do it!

Last year, I made it a goal to play PlayStation 1 games from 1997. Now, for 2026, I’m setting a new gaming goal: to play 12 PlayStation 5 games that you can’t play on the older PS4. I’m focusing on games made specifically for the newest generation of consoles.
I’m looking for PS5 games on physical disc that can be played completely offline, without needing any downloads. I’d like to play these games for a total of at least 120 hours over the next year – about ten hours each month.
I’ve put together a preliminary list of 12 PlayStation 5 games I’m keeping an eye on: Astro Bot (releasing in 2024), Deathloop (2021), Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (2024), Ghost of Yotei (2025), Gotham Knights (2022), Need for Speed Unbound (2022), Ninja Gaiden 4 (2025), Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (2021), Returnal (2021), RoboCop: Rogue City (2023), Silent Hill F (2025), and Tekken 8 (2024).

I’m hoping to play more games in 2026, especially ones that are great for my new PS Portal. It just doesn’t feel right playing visual novels on a large 4K TV, so I’m planning to focus on those types of games, as well as slower-paced, turn-based titles, during the downtime between major game releases.
I’m currently playing through the whole Ace Attorney series. I’ve also been curious about the Zero Escape games for a while now. I really love Final Fantasy X, though I haven’t managed to complete it yet. The PS Portal is making it much easier to enjoy these games.
I also really want to start playing the Trails series. I actually already have about half of the games through work, but there are so many of them that it feels overwhelming to begin. I need to start with Trails in the Sky: First Chapter pretty soon.

I have to admit, I used to play every single game made by Sony’s internal studios as soon as it came out. It was a habit I never broke. However, as the Push Square team has gotten bigger and I’ve become more interested in games that are constantly updated, I’ve ended up with a lot of unplayed PlayStation Studios titles. To be honest, I’ve only spent about 30 minutes with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and I never even finished Astro Bot.
In 2026, I want to reverse this pattern and finally finish the games I’ve started. After that, I plan to play Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and Ghost of Yotei.
With so many new games coming out and my habit of playing gacha games, I’m not sure when I’ll have the time. Still, it’s good to have something to work towards, right?
