Taskmaster’s Alex Horne hints at “big name” from overseas for next line-up

As a long-time aficionado of Taskmaster, I must say that the anticipation for each new season is always palpable, and this time around, with Alex Horne hinting at an overseas celebrity joining the fray, it’s got me all tingly with excitement! The show has previously welcomed some fantastic comedians from across the pond, but never one as big as the mystery guest they seem to be keeping under wraps.

Anticipation builds among viewers as they eagerly await the premiere of Taskmaster season 18 on Channel 4. Meanwhile, co-host Alex Horne has dropped a clue about one of the famous participants set to join season 19 in the near future.

On a recent Sunday Brunch appearance, I shared some insights about our season planning, and let me tell you, it’s never the same old thing! For series 19, we’re branching out and bringing in someone from abroad who is a global sensation. It’s a first for us, and I can hardly wait to see the fresh perspective they’ll bring! So yes, there’s always exciting paths to explore in this movie-loving world of ours.

When queried if he intended to “access the Americans”, Horne playfully retorted, “I’ll access the Americans. Will you too?”

When inquired if the secret visitor was Jerry Seinfeld, Horne replied by suggesting she could tell it to host Tim Lovejoy privately. However, she mentioned he “may not be familiar with him,” swiftly following up with “Or her, or them,” indicating a possible ambiguity regarding the mystery guest’s gender.

Indeed, it’s worth noting that the show has previously featured comedians from other countries as part of its comedy roster.

Previously, comedians such as Katherine Ryan, Rose Matafeo, Sarah Kendall, Desiree Burch, Mae Martin, and Sam Campbell have graced our screens. It’s worth mentioning that each of them has established themselves in the UK, either by residing there or by building a substantial fanbase on our comedy scene over an extended period.

Speculation is bound to rise among fans about the identity of the secret visitor, with many on Twitter, now known as X, proposing possibilities like Paul F Tompkins, Andy Samberg, John Oliver, and Bo Burnham.

Excitingly enough, while we’re here, I mustn’t forget to mention that they have an upcoming season filled with fresh content! This year, comedy enthusiasts like myself will get to enjoy the company of Andy Zaltzman, Babatunde Aléshé, Emma Sidi, Jack Dee, and Rosie Jones. Can’t wait!

Taskmaster season 18 is coming to Channel 4 later this year.
