The first season of Landman had a noticeable plot error, but Taylor Sheridan addressed and fixed it in the third episode of Season 2. Landman launched alongside the final season of Yellowstone and has quickly become a hit, though some viewers find its controversial aspects frustrating, yet they continue to watch.
In the episode “Almost a Home,” Angela searches for a new house. Meanwhile, Tommy Norris struggles with the consequences of a deal his son, Cooper, made with a powerful cartel boss, Gallino, in the previous season. Cooper is also dealing with relationship problems and difficulties with his drilling work, which unexpectedly clarifies a confusing part of the show’s storyline.
Ariana Is a Single Mother, But Rarely Has Her Baby in Landman
Some viewers of Landman have pointed out that Ariana, despite being a single mother on the show, is seldom seen with her baby. In Season 1, she’s in a relationship with Cooper, but she has a son from a previous marriage to Elvio (played by Alejandro Akara). Elvio died in an oil rig explosion during the very first episode of Landman.
After her husband’s unexpected and unfair death, Ariana is left to handle everything on her own. This makes it strange that her baby is rarely seen – the first season only features a handful of moments of Ariana caring for her son.
In the first season of Landman, Ariana juggles managing the household with the early stages of her relationship with Cooper. Her demeanor changes noticeably, and after Cooper excitedly shouts her name upon discovering oil, she pointedly asks him, “You forget I have a baby?”
Shortly after, Ariana finds herself separated from her son, Miguel, once more. She’s riding with Cooper to see his newly successful oil well, which is expected to generate around $10 million annually. Viewers were still curious about Miguel’s whereabouts when he wasn’t with Ariana, and the show finally provided a clear explanation.
Landman Season 2 Finally Explains Ariana’s Plot Hole
Landman reveals what happened with Ariana after her split from Cooper. Following her breakup with Medina and Norris Jr., Ariana seeks a job at the Patch Café, hoping to work as a server in the episode “Almost a Home.” However, her personality leads to her being hired as a bartender instead.
During an interview with Ellie, a server at Tommy’s favorite Patch Café (played by Robyn Lively), Medina explains how she balances motherhood with having time to herself. When Ellie asks about childcare for Ariana’s son, Medina reveals she’s lucky to live near Miguel’s grandmother, who helps watch him when Medina is busy.
Ariana appears to be talking about Miguel’s grandmother, who was also Elvio’s mother. Since she didn’t say it was her mother, it’s likely not a reference to her own parent. Separately, Medina confides in Ellie that she’s finally settled on a good daycare solution since her husband passed away.
Will Ariana & Cooper Get Back Together in Landman Season 2?
Now that Ariana is starting to rebuild her life without Cooper, many are wondering if Medina and Norris were truly meant to be together, or if their relationship was just a temporary part of the overall story. While the show’s creator, Sheridan, usually develops couples with long-term potential, Ariana and Cooper face significant challenges that could hinder their future.
Tommy Norris and others have noted that Ariana and Cooper’s relationship developed quickly after Ariana’s husband, Elvio, tragically died in an oil rig explosion. Norris Jr. was present when the explosion occurred and went to Ariana’s home to offer support, and they eventually began a romantic relationship as they spent more time together.
Ariana experienced grief both privately and with Cooper during the first season of Landman. It’s understandable that Medina also needs space to mourn her husband and adjust to life without him. However, Ariana and Cooper probably will reconcile, as her involvement in the story is closely tied to him.
