The creator of Yellowstone, who launched the popular series, is stepping away from Westerns to focus on a new project. The director, writer, and producer will now be working on crime thrillers, specifically a straightforward and gritty series called “How to Not Die in Prison.”
Taylor Sheridan is the creative force behind hit shows like Yellowstone and its spin-offs, the thriller Special Ops: Lioness (heading into its third season), Mayor of Kingstown starring Jeremy Renner, and Tulsa King with Sylvester Stallone – which is getting a spin-off led by Samuel L. Jackson. Now, Sheridan is expanding his storytelling to the world of books with his debut novel, “How to Not Die in Prison.”
Simon & Schuster will publish a debut book by acclaimed filmmaker Taylor Sheridan titled “How to Not Die in Prison.” The publisher describes it as a brutally honest and darkly humorous guide to surviving life in a maximum-security prison. Though Sheridan has no personal experience with incarceration, he’s collaborating with Tom Nelson, a former convict who has lived through the prison system, bringing his world-building skills to the project. The book is scheduled to be released on June 23, 2026.
