Taylor Sheridan’s hit crime series is back in production for the last time.
Look, Taylor Sheridan exploded onto the scene with Yellowstone, and he hasn’t slowed down since. He’s become a real force in television, giving us shows like Lioness and Tulsa King. And Mayor of Kingstown, with Jeremy Renner, has really resonated with viewers. However, it’s been confirmed that season five will be the last – which is a shame, but I understand the need to wrap things up sometimes.
Hugh Dillon, who co-created, produces, and stars in Mayor of Kingstown, has announced that filming for season 5 has officially begun. He shared a photo on social media of the crew gathered near a vehicle on a rainy road, with the caption: “Season 5 here we go!!!”
Following the dramatic season 4 finale of Mayor of Kingstown in December, the show was officially renewed for a fifth and final season in January. This last season will conclude the story of Mike McLusky and his family’s efforts to keep the peace in Kingstown. Unlike previous seasons which had 10 episodes, season 5 will be shorter, with only eight episodes.
Although a specific release date hasn’t been announced, now that filming has begun, it’s likely the new season will be available later this year or early next year. Previous seasons haven’t followed a consistent release schedule – season 1 came out in November 2021, season 2 in January 2023, season 3 in June 2024, and season 4 last October.
Please be aware that the following contains potential spoilers for season 4 of Mayor of Kingstown. While details about season 5 haven’t been officially released, most of the main cast is likely to return. This includes Jeremy Renner as Mike, Edie Falco as Nina Hobbs, Taylor Handley as Kyle, Tobi Bamtefa as Bunny Washington, Laura Benanti as Cindy Stephens, Derek Webster as Stevie, Necar Zadegan as Evelyn Foley, and Dillon as Ian Ferguson.
Considering what happened in season 4, several actors likely won’t be back, including Lennie James (Frank Moses), Lane Garrison (Carney), Nishi Munshi (Tracy), and Hamish Allan-Headley (Robert). The season finale also saw Merle Callahan (Richard Brake) killed by Kyle, which could be a storyline explored in the new season, alongside the fact that Ian won the lottery.
Even though Mayor of Kingstown is finishing up, fans still have a lot of content from Taylor Sheridan to look forward to. Tulsa King will return for a fourth season, and Lioness has been renewed for a third. Plus, the Yellowstone universe is growing with the recent premiere of Marshals on March 1st, and another spin-off, The Madison, arrives on March 14th.
