Next month, Taylor Sheridan will reach a milestone with his expanding television universe. Two new series, spun off from the original Yellowstone starring Kevin Costner as John Dutton, will premiere. Sheridan created Yellowstone with John Linson; the show debuted in 2018 and concluded in late 2024 after a delayed final season.
The fifth season of Yellowstone was released in two parts. The premiere of the second part drew a record-breaking 16.4 million viewers across all initial broadcasts. Though the original Yellowstone series has concluded, the story will continue in March with a new chapter that marks the beginning of a new era for the franchise.
Why March Marks A Historic Month For The Yellowstone Franchise
It’s been almost a year since fans last saw anything new from the Yellowstone universe. The show’s second spin-off, 1923, finished airing in April 2025, and things have been quiet ever since. While the franchise took a nearly year-long break, it will be back in March with a new season continuing the story of the original Yellowstone series.
The world of Yellowstone is expanding! A new series focusing on John Dutton’s son, Kayce (played by Luke Grimes), will premiere at the beginning of the month. Following the events of Yellowstone’s finale, where Gil Birmingham’s character played a key role, Kayce will star in Marshals, a new procedural drama on CBS.
After a long period of no news, the world of Yellowstone is expanding with two new shows coming in March. Paramount+ has revealed the release date for a previously mysterious spinoff, which will star Kurt Russell and an ensemble cast. The Madison will premiere on March 14th, just two weeks after the debut of Marshals.
Yellowstone has previously released different shows at the same time – for example, the first prequel series, 1883, aired alongside Season 4 in late 2021 and early 2022. However, next month will be a first for Yellowstone, as it will premiere two spinoffs in the same month.
This marks a first for the Yellowstone universe, with shows appearing on both traditional television and streaming services. The new series will be the first procedural drama within the franchise and the first to air on a major network. Simultaneously, The Madison will be available to stream on Paramount+, where all previous Yellowstone spinoffs have been released.
How Marshals And The Madison Connect To Yellowstone’s Flagship
With two new shows connected to Yellowstone coming soon – Marshals and the third season of Tracker – both premiering on Sunday, March 1st, it’s helpful to understand how they fit into the original series. The Madison seems like it will be a standalone story, but Marshals is likely to reference events and characters from Yellowstone.
Although connected to the world of Yellowstone, the new series, The Madison, doesn’t currently appear to have any direct links to the Dutton family. The show will center around Michelle Pfeiffer’s character, Stacy Clyburn, a woman who relocates to Montana’s Madison River Valley following a personal tragedy. Despite being developed as a spinoff, it’s operating as a separate story for now.
With the development of the new series, The Madison, it’s possible we’ll discover connections between Stacy’s family and the Duttons. Creator Taylor Sheridan has consistently woven the extensive Dutton family history into all of his Montana-based shows, and some viewers speculate that Michelle Randolph’s character might have left Montana back in 1924.
Kayce’s new show will directly follow the story he and his family created in Yellowstone. His internal struggle and being torn between different ways of life have been central to the series’ plot. The original Yellowstone ends with Kayce selling the ranch and starting a new chapter.
Kayce will be back in action in a new series called Marshals, where he’ll work with a team of US Marshals in Montana. The show will probably connect to events from Yellowstone and Kayce’s history, as characters Thomas Rainwater and Mo Brings Plenty will also appear, continuing their storylines.
