Taylor Swift doesn’t need to dwell on what almost was with Travis Kelce, because they’re now together.
Just four months after getting engaged, the singer known as “Opalite” and her fiancé, a Kansas City Chiefs player, have shared how their relationship helps her feel understood, especially when she feels isolated by her unique experiences.
As she told Stephen Colbert on The Late Show Dec. 10, “I can talk to him about any of this.”
Honestly, I can’t even tell you how amazing it is to see her finally happy! She always deserved all the good things, but to find that kind of genuine, sparkling joy… and then to get ownership of her first six albums all in one year? It’s like a dream come true, and I’m completely obsessed with how well-deserved it all is. Seriously, it’s breathtaking!
She said she never imagined two wonderful things would happen: getting engaged to the person she loves and regaining ownership of her music. She emphasized that neither of these felt inevitable, and she’s incredibly thankful they both came to pass.
Taylor acknowledged her fans’ support for her success, but she’s also previously thanked Travis Kelce and his podcast, New Heights (co-hosted with his brother Jason Kelce), for sparking and nurturing her romantic relationship.
She shared on the New Heights podcast that it actually helped her find a boyfriend. Apparently, Travis used the podcast as a way to meet people a few years ago, and that’s how they connected.
She noted that Travis pursuing her publicly was “such a wild romantic gesture.”
She playfully compared the situation to a classic 1980s romantic comedy, like one directed by John Hughes. She joked that it felt like a scene where someone would stand outside your window holding a boombox, trying to win you over.
For Taylor, Travis and her past music are one in the same.
Thinking back to the 36-year-old man making a move, she confessed that it was exactly the kind of thing she’d been dreaming about in her songs since she was a teenager.
Travis agreed and explained, “While at Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour, I realized exactly what she expected from me as I listened to each song.”

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following the buzz around Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, and it all started back in July 2023. Taylor was performing at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City during her Eras Tour, and that’s where their connection really began!

Travis publicly talked about dropping the ball – something he’d later call incredibly cool – and then decided to take a chance and invite the famous singer to a Kansas City Chiefs game at Arrowhead Stadium.
He said on The Pat McAfee Show that he playfully challenged Taylor Swift. He told her that since she’s performed at Arrowhead Stadium, she should come see him perform there too, and see who puts on the better show. He indicated something might happen soon.
Travis had grown a mustache, first showing it off in August during football training camp, when he and Taylor met.
He later recalled that his mustache and number 87 jersey were a memorable look during that time, and he was wearing them when he first met Taylor.
According to a source with knowledge of the situation, Travis and Taylor began communicating via text and phone calls around the beginning of September, as reported by TopMob News.
“It’s been very low-key,” the insider explained, “as he’s been in season.”
Taylor accepted Travis’ invitation and went to Arrowhead Stadium to watch him and the Kansas City Chiefs play the Chicago Bears, where she sat with his mother, Donna Kelce. After the game, Taylor and Travis were photographed showing affection for each other at a nearby bar.
Despite rumors that they met face-to-face for the first time, the singer of “Karma” later explained that they had already spent a good deal of time getting to know each other.
As Taylor noted, “We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.”
To show how serious things were getting, Taylor brought a group of her friends – including Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Sophie Turner, Hugh Jackman, Sabrina Carpenter, and Antoni Porowski – to see the Chiefs play the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
Taylor Swift seems to be getting close to Brittany Mahomes, wife of Travis Kelce’s best friend and teammate, Patrick Mahomes, both at and away from football games. This could be another hint that Taylor and Travis are a couple!
The couple publicly showcased their relationship with a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live on October 14th. They continued their New York outing with the show’s after-party and a romantic dinner at the Waverly Inn.
During his team’s break, Travis flew to Argentina to see Taylor Swift perform as part of her Eras Tour. At the November 11th concert in Buenos Aires, he connected with Taylor’s father, Scott Swift, and Taylor even gave him a special mention from the stage.
“Karma is that guy on the Chiefs,” Taylor sang, “coming straight home to me.”
Following the performance, Taylor Swift reportedly rushed backstage and kissed Travis Kelce with enthusiasm.
Taylor addressed the lavender craze surrounding her appearances at Travis’ games.
She told Time magazine that she and her partner are comfortable supporting each other publicly, even if others disapprove. She contrasted this with the lengths some people go to in order to keep relationships secret.
The famous singer made Travis’ game on December 17th a family event, bringing her father along to support her boyfriend.
Taylor and Travis celebrated New Year’s Eve together and shared a kiss at midnight on January 1st.
Taylor continued getting to know Travis’ family and spent time with his brother, Jason Kelce, and Jason’s wife, Kylie, at the Kansas City Chiefs game against the Buffalo Bills.
After the Chiefs won the AFC Championship and secured their place in the 2024 Super Bowl, Taylor joined Travis on the field. They celebrated with a kiss and then told each other ‘I love you’.
“Tay, I’m gonna enjoy with the guys,” he told her. “I love you—so much it’s not funny.”
