Oh my Lord, you’ve never seen a music video like this before.
Taylor Swift’s music video for “Opalite” is a fun throwback to 1980s infomercials. The video features a brunette Taylor Swift who feels lonely except for her pet rock, until she sees a commercial for Opalite – a product promising to change your life with a single spray.
Once she receives the product and applies it, the woman, known as “Lonely Girl,” finds herself unexpectedly left at the home of “Lonely Boy,” who is portrayed by Domhnall Gleeson.
Once upon a time, a girl and a boy were both very lonely – her only companion was a painful cactus! But things quickly changed when they met and found happiness together. They went from singing karaoke by themselves to competing as a duo in sparkly tracksuits. Instead of lonely nights at bars or the movies, they started enjoying fun dates at the mall.
The six-minute video, which came out on Apple Music and Spotify on February 6th, features a lot of well-known celebrities who appear alongside the characters Lonely Girl and Boy.
As a lifestyle guru, I’m thrilled to share the incredibly fun casting news! Greta Lee is absolutely nailing the role of the dreamy ‘Indie Rock Goddess’ we all see on TV. And get this – Lewis Capaldi is playing the most amazing mall photographer ever. Jodie Turner-Smith embodies total fitness goals as the ‘Aerobics Dream Girl,’ and Cillian Murphy is the perfect face and voice for Opalite! But there’s a twist – Graham Norton is hilariously playing the rebel, selling ‘Nope-alite’ as the anti-Opalite! It’s a really creative and playful campaign.
This group of six celebrities became famous together because they were all guests on Graham Norton’s show with Taylor Swift in October. During the show, Cillian mentioned Domhnall’s great dancing, and Domhnall joked about wanting to be in a Taylor Swift music video – that’s when the idea for this group came about.

You know, I was recently chatting with some incredibly talented people, and I have to say, I felt so fortunate to be with that group! I’ve admired their work for ages, and it was amazing to finally connect. During our conversation on air, the lovely Domhnall Gleeson made a funny comment about wanting to be in one of my music videos – and honestly, being Irish, he was just being playful and charming!
He added that during the interview, he suddenly had an idea.
The Grammy-winning artist says that just two weeks later, the star of About Time sent over a script idea. And that’s not all!
Taylor shared that she hoped everyone who was on the Graham Norton show with her that night – including Graham himself – would want to be in the music video. She described it as a fun, optional collaboration, like a group project for adults. She was thrilled that everyone agreed and traveled back to the 90s to help her film it.
But unlike a school project with unelected comrades, this project was a delight.
She was overjoyed with how much fun she had. She not only made new friends, but also explored creative ideas and expressed herself through style while developing the story and characters, which she found incredibly exciting.
You know, when I was brainstorming ideas for the video, I had this fun thought: what if everyone from the Graham Norton show that night – Graham included! – could join in? It was kind of like picturing a group project, but for adults and totally optional. I was so thrilled that everyone actually went for it and helped us recreate the 90s vibe! It really made the whole thing even more special.
But unlike a school project with unelected comrades, this project was a delight.
She was overjoyed with how much fun she had. She not only made new friends, but also explored creative ideas and developed a unique style while bringing the story and its characters to life. It was a truly exciting experience for her.

It’s no surprise the “Opalite” music video is extra creative—it even starts with a playful ad for a fictional product! Plus, the song is a favorite of Taylor Swift’s fiancé, Travis Kelce, and tells the story of their relationship, showing how both of them overcame past relationships before finding each other.
As for why Taylor landed on opalite as the metaphor for their romance?
She shared on the Capital Breakfast radio show in October that she’d written down ‘opalite’ after finding out it’s a lab-created opal. She explained that because Travis’s birthstone is opal, she’s always been drawn to the stone and remembered it fondly.
The choice in gem also went beyond its connection to Travis’ birthday.
Okay, seriously, when she said the opal was made by people, it just hit me so hard! It totally makes sense – like, happiness isn’t just something you find, you can actually create it yourself. It’s such a brilliant connection, that idea of something beautiful being artificial, just like how we build our own joy. It’s mind-blowing how she put those two things together!

The song details Taylor’s path from disappointing past relationships – which her brother playfully compared to ‘eating out of the trash’ – to finding a genuine connection with Travis.
Whereas the Midnights artist was once “sleepless in the onyx night,” now her “sky is opalite.”
The hints about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s relationship aren’t the only hidden details in The Life of a Showgirl—keep reading to discover more.

The first song on Taylor Swift’s album, The Life of a Showgirl, alludes to Ophelia, a character from William Shakespeare’s play Hamlet, and her unfortunate story.
The song suggests Taylor could have been overwhelmed by sadness if her partner hadn’t helped her through it.
“I heard you calling / On the megaphone,” Taylor sings. “You wanna see me all alone.”
The song seems to reference Travis Kelce playfully teasing Taylor Swift on his podcast, New Heights, about her not being able to meet up with him during her Eras Tour – which is where their relationship started.
“I swore loyalty to me, myself and I,” the lyrics continue. “Right before you lit my sky up.”
Before she started dating Travis, Taylor had recently ended things with Matty Healy and had described herself as happily single in July 2023.
But after Travis went to her concert in Kansas City that same month, sparks began to fly.
Taylor’s fiancé is now participating in her tradition of hiding clues, or ‘Easter eggs,’ for fans. Back in July, he hinted at lyrics from her song “The Fate of Ophelia” in an Instagram post, joking that they’d been having fun adventures and ‘keeping it real.’
So, how does this relate to Taylor’s song? The lyrics say, “You dug me out of my grave and saved my heart from the fate of Ophelia / Keep it one hundred,” which explains the connection.

In the second song on the album, Taylor pays tribute to the iconic Elizabeth Taylor, referencing places the actress loved, like the Plaza Athénée in Paris and Musso & Frank’s in Los Angeles.
Taylor’s lyrics also connect her to Elizabeth Taylor, the famous actress. Similar to how Taylor experiences media attention now, Elizabeth was frequently in the news for everything – from her romantic relationships to her glamorous style.
But, as Taylor notes in her song, “Oftentimes it doesn’t feel so glamorous to be me.”

In the cheerful song “Opalite,” which Travis Kelce has said is his favorite by Taylor Swift, she sings about their relationship.
Taylor has experienced a lot of heartbreak in the past, but her relationship with Travis feels peaceful and serene, like a calm, opalescent sky.
She explained on Capital radio that she’d written down ‘opalite’ after discovering it’s a lab-created opal. Since Travis’s birthstone is opal, she’d always been drawn to the stone and remembered it fondly.
The artist explained the gemstone, a lab-created opal, as a symbol: just like happiness, it isn’t always natural – it can be created by people, too.
But some fans believe Taylor subtly referenced Travis Kelce’s ex, Kayla Nicole, in her song. They think the lyrics suggest Kelce felt used as a social media accessory during their relationship.
She sings, as if speaking to him, about a disconnect: ‘You didn’t get it, you couldn’t understand why you felt so lonely. You were truly invested, while she was lost in her phone.’
The lyrics describe a fleeting relationship, questioning the authenticity of love and effort put into it. It speaks of someone finally moving on, realizing that desire fades – you crave something until you don’t.

Taylor Swift, Max Martin, and Shellback are officially listed as the songwriters for the song Showgirl. However, the late George Michael is also credited on the track “Father Figure” because it incorporates a sample from his 1987 song of the same title.
Oh my gosh, you guys, even George’s team acknowledged it! They actually posted on Instagram on October 2nd, thanking Taylor for including him in something so amazing. I seriously screamed when I saw it! It’s just… everything!
Many fans believe the first part of the song is told from the point of view of Scott Borchetta, the head of Big Machine Records, who sold Taylor Swift’s original recordings to Scooter Braun. They think the song then shifts to Taylor’s perspective as she works to regain ownership of her music.
Taylor herself admitted that the song was “written in character.”
She shared on BBC Radio 1 that writing the piece was enjoyable. She explained it explores the concept of a father figure in a new way, using it to discuss power, how power is organized, and shifts in who holds it.
She’s particularly pleased with a risqué line referencing a deal with the devil, boasting that she has the upper hand due to her dominance.

We’re now at track five on Taylor Swift’s album, Showgirl. This is where she typically places her most emotionally vulnerable songs.
In her song “Eldest Daughter,” Taylor Swift reflects on the ups and downs of life, emphasizing her unwavering commitment to her family – her parents, Andrea and Scott Swift, and her brother, Austin Swift.
The song emphasizes loyalty and strength, stating, ‘I’m not someone who’s cruel, and this isn’t reckless behavior, and I’ll always be there for you.’ It continues, ‘I won’t exclude you, despite all the disloyal and manipulative people around. I’ll always keep my promise to you.’

The sixth track on the album Showgirl is about looking back on a missed romantic opportunity with regret. The song evokes a nostalgic feeling, remembering a prom night where the singer sees someone they should have kissed. The lyrics describe a fleeting moment – a glimpse over someone’s shoulder, a wilted corsage, and the realization that a connection wasn’t reciprocated, even as a 50 Cent song played in the background. The singer reflects that they should have taken a chance anyway.
Taylor Swift references her close friend, Abigail Anderson – who inspired the song “Fifteen” – in a particularly poignant part of a song about loss. The lyrics read: “When I left school, I lost track of you / Abigail called me with the bad news / Goodbye, and we’ll never know why.”
Many fans believe the heartbreaking song is about Taylor Swift’s late friend, Jeff Lang, who passed away in 2010. He was also thought to be the inspiration behind her earlier song, “Forever Winter.”
In the 2021 song from her Red album, she sings about being devastated by a breakup, admitting, “I didn’t know you were struggling, and I would fall apart without you.” She reflects on her youthful naiveté, believing things wouldn’t improve, and promises to be a constant source of happiness, but fears eternal sadness if the relationship ends.

Okay, so everyone thinks “Actually Romantic” is a love song, but honestly, it’s not really about a relationship. It’s totally about someone—we all know who—who just constantly talks about Taylor! Like, all the time. The lyrics make it so obvious, it’s clearly a response to them. I’ve listened a million times and it’s definitely about that person and their obsession with talking about her!
Taylor sings about a confusing situation: she recently high-fived her ex, and then you expressed relief that he’d disappeared on her. She mentions a song you wrote about how much seeing her bothers you, and while some might find that harsh, she actually sees it as a strangely endearing gesture.
Taylor Swift doesn’t usually share the inspiration behind her songs, but many fans think this one was about Charli XCX. Charli opened for Taylor on the Reputation Tour and is also friends with Taylor’s former boyfriend, Matty, and his partner, Gabbriette Bechtel.
After Charli released her album brat in June 2024—Charli is married to George Daniel, a member of the band The 1975—some people thought her song “Sympathy is a Knife” was a diss track aimed at Taylor Swift. But two months later, Taylor appeared to dismiss those rumors by publicly complimenting Charli’s work.
Taylor told New York magazine that she’s been impressed with Charli’s musical talent ever since hearing ‘Stay Away’ back in 2011. She praised Charli’s songwriting as unique and imaginative, noting that she consistently takes songs in unexpected directions. Taylor added that she’s happy to see Charli’s dedication and hard work being recognized after more than ten years.
Fans are speculating about another possible connection to Charli XCX. Taylor Swift’s Spotify cover art features an apple, which is the title of Charli’s hit song from 2024.
TopMob News has reached out to reps for comment on the speculation and has not heard back.

On the very top of Taylor’s wish list? A forever with Travis. That includes starting a family.
“I just want you,” she sings. “Have a couple kids / Got the whole block looking like you.”
The artist even admitted it’s one of her favorite tracks on the album.
She explained to Magic radio that recording that particular song signaled the end of the album process. She described it as a deeply emotional and honest reflection of her current life, and felt it confirmed that they had finished the record.

Taylor says hoping for love by wishing on stars never worked for her in the past. But now that she’s with Travis, she feels confident and doesn’t feel the need to rely on luck at all.
She sings that she doesn’t need to catch the wedding bouquet to realize a difficult time is coming.
She was correct: Taylor and Travis got engaged in August 2025, two years after they started dating.
The song features suggestive lyrics and also references New Heights, the podcast Taylor says brought her and Travis together.

In the tenth song, Taylor sympathizes with someone facing public backlash, drawing on her own experiences with being ‘canceled.’
She warned, “Let’s leave now, because people will panic when they see us.” She then added, almost to herself, “It’s actually good my friends bailed – I prefer them mysterious and a little bit controversial.”
I’ve been seeing a lot of buzz online about whether this new song is about Taylor’s friendships with Brittany Mahomes or Blake Lively. It’s fun to see fans trying to decode the lyrics and connect them to her personal life – they’re definitely reading into who might be inspiring the song!
The singer explained that this understanding comes from her own experience with public struggles, possibly referencing the highly publicized conflict between Kim Kardashian and Kanye West in 2016.
After going through public scrutiny and being involved in a lot of high-profile, controversial situations throughout my career – times when it felt like everyone had an opinion – it’s changed how I navigate life now, she explained to Amazon Music.
Taylor added that seeing others face challenges makes you realize they’ll likely grow from the experience. If they can overcome those difficulties, they’ll become stronger and wiser as a result.
Okay, so for me, this whole thing is about loyalty, honestly. It’s about my choices, you know? Like, I don’t just drop someone because the internet decides they’re ‘canceled.’ I decide who I connect with based on how they treat me and what they actually do. It’s about forming my own opinions, not just following the crowd. It’s really important to me to judge people for themselves, not what others say.

As lovely as the name suggests, honey is a central theme in Taylor Swift’s eleventh song. She explains that Travis Kelce has completely changed the meaning of words like ‘honey’ and ‘sweetheart’ for her – now, instead of being associated with painful memories, those terms make her think of him.
Taylor sings about feeling uplifted and joyful when someone calls her ‘honey.’ She describes a perfect summer scene – bright pink skies and a refreshing drink – and playfully suggests she’s the person her lover desires, making the nickname even sweeter.
In fact, Travis did call Taylor “sweetie” during her debut appearance on New Heights in August.

For her final act, Taylor teamed up with friend Sabrina Carpenter.
The song “Elizabeth Taylor” offers a look into the life of a showgirl, revealing that even though it appears glamorous, there’s a cost. An experienced performer shares this reality with a rising star.
The song’s words tell a story of a woman who dreams of a wonderful life, saying she’d give anything to experience it. But the lyrics point out that’s not the reality for showgirls – they’re often used and then discarded.
Finally, after experiencing what it’s like to be a showgirl, the performers come together for a closing bow, cheerfully saying, “That’s our show! We love you all, goodnight!”
Oh my gosh, it’s about finally meeting someone you’ve looked up to forever, and it’s SO heartbreaking! They don’t give you the inspirational speech you expect, though. Instead, they basically warn you not to even try to be like them, because they want to be real about how brutal this whole world is. But, like, you’re totally obsessed and you’d do it anyway, you know? It’s just… everything!
