Taylor Swift’s Ex Taylor Lautner Reacts to Travis Kelce Engagement

Taylor Lautner is happy Taylor Swift found her end game. 

Back in 2009, the actor famed for his role in Twilight, who once dated a Grammy winner, expressed his well wishes to the soon-to-be bride by re-sharing a congratulatory message on Taylor Swift’s engagement with Travis Kelce. They had announced their engagement the very same day through a joint Instagram post.

In the Instagram post republished by the NFL on August 26th, a photo of Taylor and Travis’ engagement was paired with another picture capturing their emotional moment on the field following Travis’ AFC Championship win in January 2024. The football account superimposed Taylor’s touching sentiment expressed at the time above these images: “I can’t believe this is happening.

And the NFL captioned the post, “same.”

Over a decade back, the songwriter penned “Back to December” as an expression of their past relationship. However, with time, these former partners have managed to forge a friendship.

In a podcast episode back in December 2023, Taylor (Dome) Lautner’s husband, Taylor Lautner, expressed that every relationship is unique. He believes that when you value someone for their authentic self, it facilitates moving on, forgiving, and transforming the love into a new form. Luckily, they possessed this quality, so even after our relationship ended-he was 18, she was 20 or 21 at the time-we maintained a friendly connection, occasionally crossing paths.

He went on to express that he has held the utmost regard for her as an individual from the very beginning. He further added that one of the most significant events in his life over the past year has been the renewal of their friendship, as she is simply a marvelous person. It’s truly wonderful to have her in one’s life.

In a surprising turn of events during the Kansas City leg of the Eras Tour in July 2023, the singer who is known for “Cruel Summer” invited her ex on stage to assist her with the debut of her “I Can See You” music video, where he also acted. The coincidence being that she had lost Travis’ friendship bracelet at this same event.

In a recent Instagram post, Taylor Swift shared that she penned the script for a video treatment more than a year ago, expressing her desire to symbolically portray the emotional journey of having fans support her in reclaiming her music. She specifically mentioned that she envisioned Joey King, Taylor Lautner, and Impresley Cash (HelloImpresley) as the stars of this project.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s romantic journey started in July 2023, during her Eras Tour, as it passed through Arrowhead Stadium located in Kansas City, Missouri.

As a devoted fan of Taylor Swift, the tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs eagerly attended the concert with the intention of presenting Taylor a friendship bracelet bearing his number. Unfortunately, his attempt to throw the bracelet was hindered by Taylor’s pre-performance routines.

Travis expressed his disappointment during the July 26 episode of his New Heights podcast, as she doesn’t engage in conversations before or after her shows to preserve her voice for the 44 songs she performs. Consequently, he felt a bit let down because he couldn’t present one of the bracelets he crafted for her.

Following his blunder, which Travis himself labeled as “unbelievably awkward,” he mustered up the courage and extended an invitation to the Grammy-winning artist to attend the Chiefs game at Arrowhead Stadium.

He explained on The Pat McAfee Show, “I suggested it, I invited her to challenge me. I said something like, ‘I’ve noticed how great you are on stage at Arrowhead, maybe you could come and watch me perform there too, so we can see who puts on a better show.’ So, let’s wait and see what transpires in the coming days.

During their initial meeting, Travis sported a mustache that he had grown since August, which was evident during training camp, on him.

In his subsequent reflections, he mentioned that during that period, the mustache and the number 87 jersey became quite iconic for a while. When I first encountered Taylor, I was sporting that look.

According to a reliable insider, by early September, Travis and Taylor were exchanging texts occasionally and had some casual conversations.

“It’s been very low-key,” the insider explained, “as he’s been in season.”

Upon receiving an invitation from Travis, Taylor went to Arrowhead Stadium with Donna Kelce, the athlete’s mother, to witness Travis and the Kansas City Chiefs play against the Chicago Bears. After the match, pictures surfaced of Taylor and Travis showing public affection at a nearby bar.

It turns out that contrary to popular belief, the famous singer Karma hadn’t actually met the couple for the first time in person when it was thought; rather, they had already spent a considerable period of time becoming acquainted with each other prior to their initial encounter.

As Taylor noted, “We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.” 

In a clear sign of our growing bond, I decided to introduce my circle of friends such as Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Sophie Turner, Hugh Jackman, Sabrina Carpenter, and Antoni Porowski, to the thrill of watching the Chiefs battle it out against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

It’s another indication that Travis might indeed be “The 1”. You see, Taylor seems to have developed a connection with Brittany Mahomes – the spouse of Travis’ close friend and fellow NFL player, Patrick Mahomes. This bond appears both on and off the field.

On October 14th, the couple unexpectedly stepped into the limelight during the episode of Saturday Night Live. This New York City tour also encompassed the gathering following the NBC sketch show and an intimate dinner at the Waverly Inn, marking a romantic evening for them.

During a break in his football schedule, Travis made a trip to Argentina to attend the South American leg of Taylor’s Eras Tour. Not only did the NFL player get closer to Scott Swift, Taylor’s father, at the November 11th concert in Buenos Aires, but he also received a special recognition on stage.

“Karma is that guy on the Chiefs,” Taylor sang, “coming straight home to me.”

Following the performance, the artist from the Midnights concert was spotted rushing towards Travis off-stage for a warm embrace and a fervent kiss.

Taylor addressed the lavender craze surrounding her appearances at Travis’ games.

On December 17th, the popular music sensation made Travis’ game a special event for the whole family, inviting her father to support him.

I was absolutely thrilled to spend my first New Year’s Eve with the one and only Taylor, and let me tell you, the moment the clock hit midnight on January 1st, we shared a heart-stopping kiss that I’ll remember forever.

While further strengthening ties with Travis’ loved ones, Taylor spent time with his brother Jason Kelce and Kylie Kelce during the Kansas City Chiefs’ match against the Buffalo Bills.

Taylor met up with Travis on the football field after the Chiefs clinched the AFC Championship, a triumph that assured their participation in the 2024 Super Bowl. Afterward, they both rejoiced and sealed it with a kiss before one of them expressed love for the other.

“Tay, I’m gonna enjoy with the guys,” he told her. “I love you—so much it’s not funny.”

On February 12, Taylor shared a video on social media that playfully depicted her taking her parents out clubbing with athlete Travis for the first time post-Super Bowl, making light of the situation.

Taylor first Instagram post with Travis Scott was a selfie, taken backstage during his Eras tour performance at Wembley Stadium in London, where they were joined by Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their eldest children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

At the seventh Eras tour concert, held at London’s Wembley Stadium, the NFL player made an appearance on stage alongside his girlfriend. During her performance of “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” he supported her as a backup performer.

Taylor attended the initial game of the 2024-25 season for the Chiefs alongside Travis. This image posted by Chariah Gordon, who’s seen with her partner, Chiefs’ wide receiver Mecole Hardman, seems to depict a moment reminiscent of a public display of affection (PDA), recalling an incident from October 2023.

The two individuals were present at the wedding of model Karen Elson, who took place at Electric Lady Studios in New York City, which is owned by Lee Foster.

The next day, the pair attended the men’s singles final match at the U.S. Open.

The two stepped out for a double dinner date with Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds in NYC.

Over the final weekend of 2024, they left together for a succession of two dates in New York City. Interestingly, they were dressed alike on each occasion.

During the off-season of the NFL, the duo took a snowy getaway to Montana, sharing an enjoyable vacation with sports broadcaster Erin Andrews.

In July 2025, Travis shared the first photos of him with Taylor on Instagram, among which was a charming snapshot from a dinner date that hinted at each having phone screenshots of the other saved as lockscreen images.
