Kelsea Ballerini isn’t concerned with generating clickbait.
Following criticism of her new song, “Emerald City,” and after her ex-boyfriend, Chase Stokes, spoke out against the commenters, the singer defended her work and artistic expression. Some listeners had speculated the song was about Madelyn Cline, Stokes’ former Outer Banks co-star and girlfriend.
Kelsea explained to her fans at a pop-up concert in Nashville on November 17th that she writes songs people can connect with, rather than trying to spark debate online, according to People magazine.
After finishing her performance of songs from her new EP, Mount Pleasant, the 32-year-old singer became visibly emotional as she spoke directly to her fans.
She continued, thanking people for accepting her flaws and vulnerabilities over the past few years. She feels incredibly fortunate to be able to express her intense emotions through music, saying it’s essential for her well-being – otherwise, she feels like she might fall apart.
“These comments are f–king weird,” he wrote. “Grow up.”
Kelsea Ballerini’s representative confirmed she and Chase Stokes, 32, broke up in September after dating for three years. However, the pair recently fueled rumors they might be getting back together after being seen together in Croatia. Although neither has commented on where things stand now, Kelsea previously asked for privacy when they initially split.
In a TikTok video posted in September, she wrote, “There are paparazzi, anonymous sources, and hidden cameras waiting outside the hair salon. Please leave us alone.”
