Originally debuting in 2020, Ted Lasso quickly became a major hit and helped launch Apple TV+ as a streaming service. The show was praised for its positive outlook and focus on compelling characters. However, the third season in 2023 received some criticism for feeling overcrowded and for rushing the development of important storylines. Despite seeming like a conclusion, a fourth season is now in production, bringing back the main cast for a surprising continuation. This new season will see Ted (Jason Sudeikis) return to London, but this time he’ll be coaching a women’s soccer team in the second division.
Apple TV has announced that the fourth season of Ted Lasso will be released sometime between June and August of 2026. Along with the release date, new photos have been shared, confirming the return of popular characters like Ted Lasso, Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt), Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham), and Mae Green (Annette Badland).

I’m really excited about the new Ted Lasso photos coming out of London! It looks like Ted’s son, Henry, is along for the ride this time, played by Grant Feely. But even more interesting, we’re getting our first glimpse of a brand new character – an assistant coach played by Tanya Reynolds. While they’re keeping the story details under wraps, all the focus on Reynolds makes me think her character and her relationship with Ted will be a big part of season four.
Season 4 of Ted Lasso Must Balance Nostalgia With a New Storyline

As a huge fan of Ted Lasso, I’m excited but also a little nervous about the show coming back. It’s going to be a real test to see if that signature Ted Lasso optimism can still work after so much change. By the time season four finally arrives in 2026, it’ll have been three years since we last saw them, and that’s a long time in TV! There’s a risk of losing the buzz the show once had. Honestly, the way season three ended – with that feeling of a proper goodbye in the finale, “So Long, Farewell” – made it feel complete. So, bringing the story back now is tough. The writers have a real challenge convincing us fans – and a lot of us were already a bit frustrated with how season three unfolded – that this isn’t just dragging things out, but a meaningful new direction for the characters we love.

The decision to focus the next season on a women’s soccer team significantly changes what Ted Lasso is known for, making it feel less like a direct continuation and more like a spin-off. While familiar characters like Roy Kent, Keeley Jones, and Leslie Higgins will return, their roles might be smaller given the new team. The show faces a challenge: it needs to incorporate the beloved “Lasso Way” into this new setting without losing what fans loved about the original team dynamic. If the show can’t successfully blend familiar elements with a fresh story for the women’s team, it risks disappointing viewers and damaging the show’s future.
Ted Lasso Season 4 is scheduled to be released in the Summer of 2026.
