Teddi Mellencamp is trying her best.
Almost a year after Erika Jayne revealed her multiple brain tumor diagnosis, her soon-to-be ex-husband, Edwin Arroyave, shared some details about her fight against cancer.
He shared on the January 19th episode of the iHeartRadio podcast, The Eds, that one of the biggest challenges for her is getting used to exercise. She’s only recently begun to incorporate movement into her routine. He added that the immunotherapy treatment she’s undergoing has significant side effects, which have also been difficult on her emotionally.
Edwin shares three children – Slate, 13, Cruz, 11, and Dove, 5 – with Teddi. He also spoke about the good things that have come from Teddi’s experience with brain cancer.
He shared some positive news: the tumors are no longer visible. He said the likelihood of that happening was only one in a thousand, calling it a miracle from God.
Whenever Teddi, age 44, feels down, her friend, who is 48, always offers encouragement and support.
He explained it’s difficult because there’s little anyone can do to help, especially considering the internal struggles she’s facing that aren’t visible to others. It’s a very challenging situation. He constantly reminds her to concentrate on the good things, like being eight or nine months post-treatment and being cancer-free, emphasizing how significant that is, rather than dwelling on the negative aspects.
He remembered telling the reality star to recognize her own accomplishments and that she was doing a great job. He believes that overcoming internal struggles is often the most difficult challenge anyone faces.

Even though Teddi and Edwin separated in November 2024, Edwin understands how important it is to be a positive role model for their children during this challenging time.
He explained he wants his children to learn the importance of family, and to always be there for the people they love. He especially wants them to remember he was consistently present for them, no matter the challenges. As they grow up, he also wants them to understand the importance of respecting and supporting their mother, emphasizing that you only get one mom.
