The critically acclaimed comic series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is nearing the end of its current run, with issue #12 bringing this exciting chapter to a satisfying close. This issue feels like a welcome return to form for the Turtles after a difficult adventure. The creative team of Jason Aaron, Juan Ferreyra, and Shawn Lee have successfully revitalized the classic franchise, delivering a strong conclusion while also hinting at interesting possibilities for future stories.
From the beginning, Ferreyra, Lee, and Nathan Widick deserve huge credit for the incredible fight scenes, which are full of energy, bright colors, and exciting movement. The art style also changes things up occasionally, including a standout page where the Turtles are mostly in shadow, with only their bandanas vividly colored. When it comes to making a good first impression, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles really delivers right away.
Score: 4.5 out of 5
| PROS | CONS |
| Addition of Spiritual and Magical Elements | Not Enough April |
| Action Sequences are stunning | Main Villain a Bit Underwhelming |
| Issue’s Big Twist Has Huge Potential | Issue #13 Isn’t Here Yet |
The comic starts strong, but the battle truly shines in its final moments, featuring a remarkably creative panel layout resembling a turtle shell. This unique design perfectly emphasizes a pivotal moment for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo look fantastic, and the book continues to impress with two more visually stunning scenes before reaching its conclusion.

Although most of issue #12 focuses on a single fight, it’s full of important character moments – something writer Aaron is known for. The fight itself is visually exciting, but it’s the Turtles’ conversations and how they relate to each other that truly make it special. These interactions, and how they show the four brothers reconnecting, are what give the battle its emotional weight and mark a return to what makes this team work so well.
Each of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has a chance to stand out, but Donatello really takes center stage. Aaron does a great job of showing the Turtles’ growth, their feelings, and what they need to overcome their challenges, all through Donatello’s character. This continues later in the story, and while the resolution isn’t perfectly tidy, it feels authentically like a classic Turtles moment.

I won’t reveal how the issue ends, but the next creative team has a lot to work with, including a huge reveal that could change everything for the Turtles – in a good way! It’s hard to say what will happen next, but Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #12 provides a fantastic series finale, staying true to what fans love about this team, and the future looks incredibly promising.
