Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Get Ready for the Holidays in Spirited Cover Set (Exclusive)

2025 is drawing to a close, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are in the festive spirit, spreading joy to their fans! This year promises to be exceptional for TMNT enthusiasts as the current team of writer Jason Aaron and artist Juan Ferrerya concludes their celebrated run on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In the coming months, Gene Luen Yang, creator of American Born Chinese, and Freddie E. Williams II (Batman/TMNT) will take over as the new creative team. Additionally, exciting spinoff series featuring Casey Jones and Shredder are on the horizon! But for those who love holiday cheer, the Turtles have something special: a fantastic collection of holiday-themed variant covers to brighten up your day.

Exclusively unveiled by ComicBook, here are the covers and interior pages for the upcoming TMNT Annual 2025 #1, penned by Kenny Porter (Superboy: Man of Tomorrow, DC Mech) and Michael Shelfer (Action Comics, NYX). This special one-shot hits shelves on October 29th. Following their battle against District Attorney Hale and his Foot Patrol, the Turtles are in a brighter position than when readers first encountered them. Yet, some unresolved mysteries linger, and Donatello is finding it tough to get back on track.

The holiday-themed designs for TMNT comic books are created by Jared Cullum, set to be showcased on the covers of TMNT Annual 2025, TMNT: Casey Jones #2, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #13, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #14 (subject to change). Cover A is illustrated by Mateus Santolouco; Cover B is drawn by Serg Acuña; the Holiday Variant is by Jared Cullum; and Variant RI 1:25 is created by Michael Shelfer.

As a lifelong TMNT enthusiast, I feel profoundly honored to be contributing to this latest installment of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. Ever since IDW’s launch in 2011, I’ve been hooked, and these iconic characters have held a special place in my heart. Whether it’s the comic books, cartoons, or live-action movies, TMNT has consistently captivated me.

Working on a story with these beloved characters is like fulfilling a childhood dream come true, and I truly hope that readers appreciate the passion that Michael and I have poured into this annual. Jason Aaron’s current run has been nothing short of spectacular, with its intense action, deep emotions, and breathtaking artwork. Our goal is to craft a tale that complements this new direction and strengthens our connection with these characters.

I won’t give away too many details, but rest assured that we have some exciting surprises in store – you’ll see your favorite Turtles in situations they’ve never encountered before, pushing them to their physical and emotional limits. So, I invite you all to join us on this adventure!

Ellen Boener, Associate Editor, shared about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Their downtime often consists of fighting villains and saving the planet, yet they too enjoy holidays! For our holiday-themed covers, I aimed to showcase those quiet, family moments that emphasize their bond. Jared Cullum’s artwork beautifully encapsulates this. I hope everyone enjoys these covers as much as I do; Happy Holidays!

Having spent a year apart and engaged in a fierce battle against D.A. Hale and his Foot Soldiers, the four Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are reunited and working on rebuilding their relationships. However, there are lingering issues from their time apart, with Donatello particularly struggling to regain his strength. Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Raphael must unite, train, and disclose details of their lost year to help their brother recover, while they also reminisce about the past and work towards strengthening their sibling ties once more. This story is penned by Kenny Porter (Superboy: Man of Tomorrow, DC Mech) and Michael Shelfer (Action Comics, NYX)
