2026 is shaping up to be a big year for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but it will also bring some changes. For nearly twenty years, Playmates Toys has been the home of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toys, but that partnership will end this year. We now know which company will take over the toy license next year, and it could open the door to exciting collaborations and crossovers.
Beginning in 2027, Paramount and Mattel are teaming up to create a new range of products featuring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This multi-year partnership will include action figures, playsets, vehicles, games, collectibles, and role-playing items. Plans include products based on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2 in 2027 and the upcoming live-action/animated hybrid movie in 2028. Because Mattel also handles many other popular franchises, there’s a lot of potential for exciting crossovers in the future.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Now Has Access To Even Bigger Crossovers

Playmates Toys, the original maker of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles figures, was always willing to work with other companies. Even though they held the main toy license, many different TMNT figures were produced. NECA has been making Turtles figures for a long time, and McFarlane Toys recently joined in with their own series. While there have been crossovers with other brands before, Mattel offers even more potential for exciting new collaborations.
Mattel owns many popular brands, including Barbie, Hot Wheels, and Fisher-Price. They’ve recently added DC Comics to their lineup, which will be available later this year. Other brands they own include Uno, Hello Kitty, Disney, Wicked, Harry Potter, Jurassic World, Masters of the Universe, Monster High, Story Bots, and Street Sharks.
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have teamed up with Masters of the Universe and WWE before, which makes future collaborations with those franchises more likely. With the recent reboot of Masters of the Universe, there’s also potential for fresh takes on those crossovers if they happen again.
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have potential to expand into many other popular brands, like Street Sharks, Hot Wheels, Barbie, and even Disney, in surprising ways. It’s easy to imagine Fisher-Price creating a full line of TMNT toys, and a miniature Sewer Lair would be a huge hit with fans.
It will be fascinating to see how the new figures compare to the classic Playmates versions, which had a distinct look that many fans remember fondly. Will they resemble the more modern DC and Masters of the Universe figures, or will they take after the Masters of the Universe Origins line with simpler posing for a retro feel? Only time will tell, but we can expect to see more details unfold next year as this new line gets underway.
