Tencent’s Take on Horizon Would Have Taken Aloy to Asia

The Horizon series takes place in a post-apocalyptic United States, featuring Colorado in Zero Dawn and San Francisco in Forbidden West as their respective settings.

As a passionate fan, I’ve learned that gaming titan Tencent proposed a captivating idea to Sony – a reimagining of the franchise where the fearless protagonist, Aloy, embarks on a journey across Asia.

The latest information stems from a legal dispute between PlayStation and a Chinese company, where PlayStation alleges that the company has copied their intellectual property in the development of Light of Motiram, a forthcoming PS5 survival game boasting an extremely likeness art design to PlayStation’s original work.

Sony’s legal team showed proof that Tencent had expressed interest in the Horizon series, specifically referring to a proposal they chose not to pursue.

The proposal holds an appealing quality to it. It seems that Tencent might be targeting this as a mobile game, primarily for the Asian audience.

The story suggests that Aloy will journey to a far-off kingdom, where she is enlisted by a group called the Orient. This project envisions an expansive map reflecting Eastern aesthetics and features fresh creatures inspired by Asian folklore, including dragons.

One piece of artwork even shows the heroine scaling the Great Wall of China.

Ultimately, Sony declined the proposal, leading to a courtroom faceoff with Tencent. However, the concept of blending Asian elements into the Horizon series remains engaging – though it seems highly improbable that such a development will occur in the current scenario.
