Monica Seles is serving up an update on her health.
Three years ago, the former tennis champion disclosed that she was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis – an autoimmune disorder that leads to muscle weakness and double vision, as stated by the Mayo Clinic. She detailed the impact of this incurable condition on her physical health.
In a recent interview with the Associated Press on August 12, Seles, aged 51, shared that while engaging in playtime with children or family, she lost track of a ball. This incident led her to remark, “I thought I saw two balls,” and it was then that she realized these were symptoms she couldn’t disregard. This marked the beginning of an important journey for her.
Further issues persisted beyond her initial alarming symptoms. The nine-time Grand Slam singles champion found herself struggling with weakness in both her legs and arms, making everyday tasks like combing her hair incredibly challenging. As the condition worsened, she sought medical assistance.
Upon receiving my diagnosis, I was taken aback, exclaiming something akin to, “Really?!” Little did I know about this condition prior to being diagnosed. It’s here that I strongly wish there had been someone like myself who could bring attention to it earlier.
Currently, Seles is finding her voice that was necessary then. Interestingly, the former athlete who retired from tennis in 2008, aims to raise awareness for Myasthenia Gravis before the U.S. Open tournament kicks off on August 24 at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York.
She shared that she needed a while to fully understand and discuss it, as it’s a challenging topic. She also mentioned that it significantly impacts her daily routine.
Embracing the new challenges presented by my diagnosis, I found myself at a crossroads, requiring a fresh start to navigate through. Determined and resolute, I wish to use this experience as a beacon for fellow athletes who may face their own obstacles, encouraging them to view these hurdles as opportunities for growth and transformation.
When I speak with the children I mentor, I often say, ‘You need to be flexible; life is like a bouncing ball that you must adapt to.’ And that’s exactly what I am doing right now.
As a passionate devotee, I can’t get enough of stories that shine a light on renowned figures like Seles, who bravely share their harrowing personal health journeys. Join me as we delve deeper into the lives of these celebrities and uncover more tales of courage and resilience!

She assured her sister Bella Garcia at that moment, “Everything’s alright. We’ll take care of it eventually. I informed the doctor, ‘Recently divorced, so as soon as my shoes are put away, I’ll be back to you and we’ll make these girls look fantastic because these girls are going to have their time in the spotlight, and that shouldn’t appear like that.’
In 2014, the actress who played a key role in “12 Years a Slave” was diagnosed with uterine fibroids – these are harmless growths that can appear inside or near the womb. This was the same year she won an Oscar for her outstanding performance in that film.
Yet, it wasn’t until the year 2025 that she revealed her diagnosis publicly, sharing on Instagram that she had endured in private for over ten years.

He added, “I’m on the road to recovery. It’s not an easy process. This is my first major surgery.”
Adam Devine revealed that the injuries he suffered from being struck by a cement truck at the age of 11 continue to impact him up until now.
In a 2025 episode of the “In Depth With Graham Bensinger” podcast, Devine described it as a harrowing experience: “I’ve been experiencing spasms everywhere. At one point, my doctors told me I was close to death-that is, within the last year.
He mentioned that pain occasionally appears, and he commented, “My body has certain issues that aren’t quite right or functioning perfectly.
Previously on Bachelor Nation, this ex-contestant revealed that he had to seek medical attention after experiencing intense lower back pain while traveling in an RV with a companion. This pain was so severe that he found himself crawling on the floor to get around.
Currently, there’s a tingling sensation from my knees to the tips of my toes, which is quite unusual,” he remarked during his March 2025 episode of the Trading Secrets podcast. “To give you an idea, around two or three weeks ago, or even a month back, I was able to squat approximately 295 pounds. Now, I’m unable to perform a single-leg squat; if I try, I lose balance. It feels as though I’ve suffered a stroke or something similar.
But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”

She posted on Instagram that there was another group present who accidentally fired their weapon in a dangerous manner towards us, causing them to shoot me in the face. Immediately upon this incident, @thebrendanrooney reacted swiftly, evaluated my injuries, and transported me urgently to the hospital. I was struck in five locations, with one bullet coming within an inch of hitting my right eye directly.
The former star of Kim Possible went on to say, “Regrettably, a piece became stuck near my eye, and it’s currently not safe for surgery to extract it. Medical professionals are keeping a close eye on me, and fortunately, I can see clearly for now.
She expressed her gratitude for still being alive, stating, “My affection for my daughters, husband, family, and friends is immeasurable.” She continued by describing a moment where she felt her life was shown to her, emphasizing that one should never miss the opportunity to embrace those near them. She explained that life can unexpectedly alter in a heartbeat.
In Amy Schumer’s own words, she expressed gratitude for the internet’s role in helping her uncover the mystery behind her health concerns. After experiencing a flurry of comments following several interviews, doctors chimed in with their opinions, suggesting that she might have Cushing syndrome. Surprised by being criticized by medical professionals, Amy later realized that she had been receiving steroid injections for her scars. Upon this realization, she connected the dots and discovered that these steroid injections could potentially cause Cushing syndrome, a condition she would not have known about without the internet’s relentless scrutiny. Today, Amy is relieved to know that she is healthy and will make a full recovery from this condition.

In March 2022, Hailey Bieber, co-founder of Rhode skincare, experienced a terrifying incident during breakfast with her husband, Justin Bieber. As she began to exhibit symptoms reminiscent of a stroke – such as facial drooping and speech impairment – Justin inquired about her wellbeing, but Hailey was unable to respond properly.
A month later, Hailey shared this experience on YouTube. She recounted that after initial inquiries from Justin, she found herself unable to speak coherently, with the right side of her face drooping. A trip to the hospital revealed a small blood clot in her brain, classified as a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA).
Further examination at the University of California, Los Angeles, uncovered a heart condition known as patent foramen ovale (PFO), which allowed the blood clot to travel into her heart, escape through the hole, and ultimately reach her brain. Hailey underwent a successful PFO closure procedure and reported feeling well afterwards.
In the same year as Hailey’s health crisis, Justin also encountered one of his own. Specifically, in June 2022, the “Baby” singer revealed he was diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, a condition affecting nerves in his ear and face, which caused temporary facial paralysis and necessitated the cancellation of the rest of his Justice World Tour. To explain this, Justin shared an Instagram video where he discussed how this virus had affected the nerve in his ear and facial nerves, causing him to lose blinking ability in one eye, difficulty smiling on the side of his face, and immobility in his nostril – resulting in full paralysis on that side. He also mentioned it was becoming increasingly difficult for him to eat. However, with time, the paralysis subsided. Hailey confirmed on a June 2022 episode of Good Morning America that Justin is doing well and has since recovered.
Initially maintaining secrecy about his hospitalization in April 2023, Jamie Foxx eventually shared his experiences. In his 2024 Netflix special titled “What Had Happened Was…”, he recalled the incident: “One day in Atlanta, I was experiencing such a severe headache that I asked my friend for an aspirin. Before I could get it, I passed out and don’t remember the next 20 days.”
He was initially examined by a doctor who administered a cortisone injection and sent him home. However, his concerned sister, Deidra Dixon, then drove him to a hospital where they discovered the cause: a brain hemorrhage that led to a stroke. After undergoing surgery on the 20th day, Foxx woke up May 4 in a wheelchair, unable to walk. He then traveled to Chicago for rehabilitation and therapy.
“I can only express my gratitude for every prayer,” he said, “as I believe I needed each one of them.
Emilia Clarke, famously known for her roles in Game of Thrones, once penned an essay titled “A Battle for My Life” in The New Yorker. In the piece, she described an incident where, while at the gym, she was struck with a severe headache that led to vomiting profusely. The pain intensified and she suspected her brain was injured.
Rushed to the hospital, she was diagnosed with a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a potentially fatal type of stroke caused by bleeding in the brain’s surrounding area. She had suffered an aneurysm, or arterial rupture. The surgery to seal the aneurysm was agonizing for her.
During recovery, she faced aphasia and found herself uttering nonsensical words. However, her aphasia subsided a week later, and she was discharged from the hospital after a month’s stay.
In 2013, during a follow-up brain scan, she learned that the growth had doubled in size, necessitating another surgery. Upon waking up from the procedure, she was screaming due to pain as the operation had failed and her chances of survival were considered precarious. Thankfully, she is now fully recovered.
Snoop Dogg’s daughter, Cori Broadus, expresses her gratitude towards her family following a severe stroke in January 2024. After she informed them about the stroke through text and shared a picture with TopMob News correspondent Will Marfuggi in December 2024, they all rushed to her aid.
Due to additional health issues, Cori’s hospital stay was longer than anticipated. She explained, “I could have left the hospital after my stroke, but my lupus wasn’t responding well. My kidneys were failing, and there were many things happening simultaneously.”
Today, Cori is recovering well. She shared, “I’m doing great now. I just had to work on some motor skills, but other than that, I was fine.
During her twenties, the health of Shailene Woodley was not ideal. It got to a point where she began losing her hearing, struggled to walk for more than five minutes without needing long periods of rest, and found that almost every food upset her stomach. This combination of issues led to various diagnoses from different doctors.
To find answers, Shailene, who has a holistic background and studies herbalism, decided to consult both mainstream medical professionals and independent healers. This quest for understanding took a decade. During this time, the discomfort she felt physically caused other problems, such as fear of food due to stomach pain, body dysmorphia, confusion about identity, and feelings of insecurity and uncertainty about what it meant to feel safe and comfortable in her own skin.
After addressing both her physical and mental health issues, Shailene is now feeling much better. She shared that, thankfully, her health problems eventually resolved themselves, and she is now in good health.
