On today’s show, the host revealed that she and her mother, the ex-First Lady Lara Bush, hold a deeply moving bond with the Central Texas girls’ summer camp, tragically affected by a massive flood on Independence Day (July 4).

In a heartfelt discussion during the July 7 broadcast, Jenna, aged 43, shared, “My mom used to work as a drama counselor at this camp, and so many of my friends grew up there too. This camp holds deep significance for Texas families because it’s a place where multiple generations – grandmothers, mothers, and children alike – have attended.

To clarify, the Texas-born individual mentioned that several of her friends chose to have their children at a Christian summer camp. This observation has remained with her, as her family – herself, Henry Chase Hager, and their kids Mila (aged 13), Poppy (9), and Hal (5) – are spending this summer at another camp in her home state.

She disclosed, “My husband questioned, ‘Why are we sending our children to Texas for camping? It’s sweltering,’ but the reason is the affection we feel. Texas embodies a unique toughness. They’re a generous community, eager to lend a hand. The camps in Texas hold a special charm.

Undeniably, the community united in response when a sudden flood from the Guadalupe River inundated Kerr County and areas beyond, including Camp Mystic that housed approximately 750 children at the time. Later, it was confirmed by authorities that the disaster had tragically claimed the lives of 27 campers and staff members.

Regarding Jenna, she carried on grieving the tragedy during her “Jenna & Friends” talk show on the very same day.

In a conversation with Dwyane Wade, she expressed her thoughts as parents about the distress of entrusting our children to an environment intended for healing, fun, and happiness – things every child deserves. However, when something unfortunate occurs, it shatters our trust and hopes. We send our kids out there believing they can live happily, but as adults, we’ve experienced pain. And we pray that our children never have to endure it.
