Teyana Taylor isn’t a broken-hearted girl.
Her 2023 divorce from NBA player Iman Shumpert showed her the importance of appearing strong as a family and being a good role model for their children.
Honestly, when Teyana talked about her divorce, it really hit me. She said it felt like mourning someone who’s still alive, and I totally get that! Especially because she and her ex share Iman and Rue, her sweet daughters. She explained that having kids changes everything – you just have to keep showing up for each other, even when it’s hard. It’s not about you anymore, it’s about those little ones, and she gets that so deeply. It was so raw and real, and it just made me admire her even more.
She added, “At least for the next 18 years, and being the best co-parents that we can be.”
Teyana, age 35, spoke publicly about her divorce in November 2023. She and her husband, a star from the show The Chi, had quietly filed for divorce ten months earlier, bringing their seven-year marriage to an end. The divorce was finalized in July 2024.
Even though she recently ended her marriage, the Golden Globe-winning actress remains hopeful about finding love and wants others to feel the same. She believes marriage can be a wonderful thing and doesn’t want people to be afraid of it.
Teyana doesn’t want to alter the true story of her relationship with the host of Iman Amongst Men, even if it would benefit her creatively.
I don’t pretend things happened differently than they did,” the star of All’s Fair told Vanity Fair. “When I fall in love, it’s genuine. So anything you’ve witnessed was a true expression of my feelings for as long as it lasted, and I’m okay with that.”

Teyana Taylor seems to have found love again, seven months after her divorce was finalized, with actor Aaron Pierre. Though rumors circulated that they had broken up just two months after their first public appearance together, the star of A Thousand and One clarified that they are both very focused on their careers.
Teyana said they’re both working incredibly hard and doing everything they need to do, which she finds really impressive.
