I’ve been hearing rumors for ages about a big screen team-up between Transformers and G.I. Joe, two of my favorite toy lines! It felt like it almost happened with that little G.I. Joe hint at the end of ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’ last year, but we’re still waiting to see if a full-on movie will really come together. But honestly, I’m even more excited about a different kind of crossover they’re working on – an animated one! And the fact that Robert Kirkman, the creator of ‘Invincible,’ is involved? That just makes it even cooler. I can’t wait to see what he brings to the table!
Skybound Entertainment and Hasbro are collaborating on a new adult animated series called Energon Universe, inspired by the comic books of the same name. Joe Henderson, known for Lucifer, will be the writer and showrunner. According to Deadline, the series will be expansive and geared towards adults, similar in tone to Kirkman’s Invincible. It will feature characters from Transformers and G.I. Joe, along with Void Rivals, a new series created by Kirkman and Lorenzo De Felici that debuted in 2023 as part of the same comic book collection.
While movies like Transformers and G.I. Joe are typically made for general audiences (usually rated PG-13), I’d love to see them team up with Void Rivals in a more mature, R-rated format. The team behind Invincible – especially Robert Kirkman – has done fantastic work, and with the fourth season of that show coming to Amazon Prime Video in March 2026 (and a fifth already planned), I’m excited about the possibility of seeing these other franchises explored in a similar way.
According to this report, the Energon Universe is soon to be pitched to potential buyers. It remains to be seen whether it will land on Prime Video, like Invincible, or find a home on another streaming service. I’m also excited to see Joe Henderson adapt a comic book story that stays truer to the original source, considering how much the Lucifer TV show changed from the comics. The Energon Universe comics include M.A.S.K. as part of its story, but it’s currently unknown if that team will be featured in the animated series.
