The Marvel Cinematic Universe is full of powerful heroes, but not all of them will be in the next big Avengers movie, currently titled Avengers: Doomsday. This film, along with Avengers: Secret Wars, will conclude the current storyline, known as the Multiverse Saga. Just like the ending of the Infinity Saga, this conclusion promises to be a huge, impactful event that will influence future Marvel films. Avengers: Doomsday is already planned to be a massive movie, bringing back many of the most important characters from across the MCU.
Okay, so we’re getting more and more details about the cast of Avengers: Doomsday, and honestly, I’m a little worried. There are some seriously powerful characters already established in the Marvel Cinematic Universe who, as far as we know, aren’t going to be in this movie. Now, Marvel loves to keep secrets, we all know that, but it really looks like some of our favorite heavy hitters are going to be completely absent from the story. It’s a bit of a letdown, if it turns out to be true.
10) Spider-Man

As a huge Marvel fan, I was really disappointed to hear that Spider-Man won’t be in Avengers: Doomsday. He might not be the strongest hero in the MCU, but he’s definitely one of the most popular! I first fell in love with Tom Holland’s version when he swung onto the scene in Captain America: Civil War, and his three solo movies have been fantastic. It’s just going to feel weird not seeing him team up with the Avengers again, even though Marvel has confirmed he’s sitting this one out.
His upcoming Spider-Man movie, Brand New Day, will happen at the same time as the Doomsday event. While the sequel is expected to lead into Avengers: Secret Wars, the story will unfold concurrently with Doomsday. It might seem like a letdown to have Spider-Man seemingly removed from the main storyline, but the Multiverse suggests we could still see another version of the character appear.
9) Moon Knight

Oscar Isaac first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2022 as the star of Moon Knight. Unfortunately, it looks like the story won’t continue as the Multiverse Saga comes to an end. The character is a compelling hero with powers granted by Egyptian gods, making him a powerful and nearly invincible fighter. Despite this, it appears Moon Knight won’t be part of the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie.
Given how strong Moon Knight is as a character and how popular Oscar Isaac’s portrayal was, many fans are disappointed he won’t be in the upcoming Doomsday movie. While Marvel hasn’t officially ruled out his return, sources suggest it’s unlikely, which unfortunately reinforces the feeling that Moon Knight hasn’t been used to his full potential within the MCU and fans may not see him again anytime soon.
8) Doctor Strange

Since his debut in 2016’s Doctor Strange, the character has quickly become one of the most powerful magic users in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We’ve seen Doctor Strange’s story unfold in two films of his own, as well as a key part in Avengers: Infinity War. His power and importance have been further highlighted by the What If…? series and its exploration of the Multiverse. Doctor Strange is a fascinating character, and Benedict Cumberbatch’s portrayal has made him a fan favorite among current MCU heroes.
Given how important Doctor Strange seems to be to the overall Multiverse Saga, his not being in the next Avengers movie is surprising. Benedict Cumberbatch has confirmed he won’t be in it, but will have a major role in Secret Wars instead. This suggests Marvel intentionally chose to hold him back for that film.
7) Black Knight

When Dane Whitman appeared in the 2021 movie Eternals, it looked like he would soon become the Black Knight in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A scene after the credits showed him with the Ebony Blade, suggesting Kit Harrington would play the hero, but that hasn’t happened yet. Unfortunately, it seems the Black Knight storyline won’t continue until after the current saga about the multiverse is finished.
Although Kit Harington hasn’t been confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, it’s not surprising. He hasn’t been officially introduced as the Black Knight in the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet. Still, it’s a shame, as he’s a strong character who could have added a lot to the movie. It’s likely we won’t see him join the MCU for quite some time, despite how well he’d fit into the Doomsday storyline.
6) Sersi

Sersi, a new hero introduced in the 2021 film Eternals, is surprisingly underappreciated within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As a key member – and eventually leader – of the Eternals team, she’s one of the most powerful heroes to join the MCU since Endgame. Unfortunately, the way Eternals ended on a cliffhanger suggests she won’t be appearing in Avengers: Doomsday anytime soon, and her story remains unfinished.
It’s a shame that Sersi, who has incredibly useful powers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, isn’t getting much attention. She could really help the team against Doctor Doom, but it doesn’t look like Gemma Chan will be in the movie. This suggests the story of the Eternals might be left unfinished, and Sersi won’t be involved in how the Multiverse Saga ends.
5) Arishem

As a huge MCU fan, I was really fascinated by Arishem the Judge in Eternals. He’s this unbelievably powerful, giant cosmic being who actually created the Eternals themselves! He’s easily one of the strongest characters they’ve introduced so far. But, it looks like we probably won’t be seeing him in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty – just like Sersi, he seems to be sitting this one out.
Since Arishem was last seen taking Sersi and Phastos for evaluation, he’s likely too occupied to show up in Doomsday. Although he’s incredibly powerful within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, his absence from the new film actually fits the story, as there doesn’t seem to be a clear role for him. While a cameo isn’t impossible, it’s highly unlikely, especially given that he appears focused on dealing with the aftermath of Eternals.
4) Adam Warlock

Fans first saw a hint of Adam Warlock at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and he finally appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The movie established him as a member of the new Guardians team, suggesting he’ll continue to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, Will Poulter, the actor who plays Warlock, has reportedly said he doesn’t know anything about his character’s role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie, and hasn’t confirmed his involvement.
Adam Warlock is an incredibly powerful hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and many fans would love to see him in Avengers: Doomsday. The heroes might need someone with his abilities to fight Doctor Doom, but it doesn’t seem likely. Actor Jack Poulter has stated he isn’t involved, meaning Adam Warlock will probably be another strong character missing from the movie.
3) Dormammu

Although Dormammu hasn’t played a major role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far, he remains a very powerful being within it. Since first appearing in the 2016 film Doctor Strange, he’s been largely unseen, but hints suggest he could become a significant threat to the heroes in the future, potentially even appearing in Avengers: Doomsday, though that seems unlikely at this point.
Since Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Dormammu, has confirmed he’s not in the movie, it’s likely Dormammu won’t appear. Plus, his immense power wouldn’t really fit with the story alongside Doctor Doom. Despite being a powerful character, he probably won’t be part of the film’s narrative.
2) G’iah

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe features many powerful alien characters, G’iah is exceptionally strong. Following the introduction of the Skrulls in Secret Invasion, she gained a significant power upgrade called the Harvest, which essentially gave her the combined powers of most of the Avengers. This instantly made her one of the most powerful beings in the MCU, but surprisingly, it doesn’t seem to guarantee her continued role in future films and series.
I’ve heard that G’iah isn’t coming back, and honestly, it doesn’t surprise me. Secret Invasion wasn’t exactly a hit, and that’s probably a big part of it. But I also remember how incredibly powerful she was, and I can see how that would make it hard to fit her into future stories. There’s been no word about Emilia Clarke joining the Avengers: Doomsday cast, and nothing else hints at her appearing, so it looks like she might be another strong character left on the sidelines.
1) Hulk

I was really hoping to see Hulk smash things up in Avengers: Doomsday, but Mark Ruffalo has said that won’t be happening, unfortunately. It’s a bit surprising considering he’s one of the original Avengers still around in the MCU, but apparently, we’ll be seeing him team up with Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Brand New Day instead! There’s also a chance he’ll be back for Avengers: Secret Wars, which is something to look forward to, at least.
The Hulk is a hugely powerful hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and his absence will definitely be noticed. While he won’t be in Avengers: Doomsday alongside his teammates as they battle Doctor Doom, there’s a good chance his story in Brand New Day will lead to a thrilling appearance in the Secret Wars movie planned for 2026. That means fans will still get to see the Jade Giant on the big screen.
