Despite having only one film so far, KPop Demon Hunters has become a massive animated franchise. A sequel is planned, but fans will likely have to wait until at least 2029 to see it. This has given fans plenty of time to come up with theories about what might happen next, and some particularly interesting ones focus on the character Huntrix. Here are five fan theories that could actually come true in the upcoming Sony Animation sequel.
5.) The Saja Boys Are Alive

The finale of KPop Demon Hunters pitted Huntrix against both the Saja Boys and the ultimate villain, Gwi-Ma. Throughout the movie, Gwi-Ma was portrayed as a fiery entity waiting to escape the demon realm and conquer the world. During the final battle, the leader of the Saja Boys, Jinu, sacrifices himself to save Rumi, and the remaining four members are defeated as the song “What It Sounds Like” plays. Although the demonic boy band appears to be destroyed, many fans believe they might not be truly gone. This theory stems from a statement Mira made earlier in the film – that she looked forward to them being destroyed and suffering with Gwi-Ma forever. This could allow the filmmakers to bring the popular boy band, whose music rivals Huntrix’s, back in future installments.

A major plot point in KPop Demon Hunters centers on Rumi’s heritage – she’s half-demon, inheriting that side from one of her parents. While Rumi grapples with this, fans have wondered who her demonic parent is, with many suspecting it could be the powerful Gwi-Ma. Director Maggie Chang addressed this popular fan theory online, saying a direct father-son/daughter relationship would be too similar to Star Wars and the connection between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. However, she didn’t rule out a connection altogether, and now fans believe Gwi-Ma might be Rumi’s grandfather or have another familial link to her. If true, this would be a surprising reveal in the next installment.
3.) Celine Killed Rumi’s Mother

There’s some evidence to support this idea, particularly in the art book for KPop Demon Hunters. We still don’t know what happened to Rumi’s mother, but it appears Celine, the woman who raised Rumi, does. Celine was a demon hunter like Rumi, and a member of an earlier KPop group that fought against the demons of Gwi-Ma, known as the “Sunlight Sisters.” She took a backseat role in the recent film, but the art book suggests she may have killed Rumi’s mother. A deleted scene reportedly shows Rumi directly asking Celine why she killed her mother, which could be a major plot point in the next movie.
2.) There Are More Demon Hunters Out There

The idea that just three K-Pop singers are all that stands between us and the demon world is pretty unbelievable, and fans are curious if other musical groups are also fighting demons – and if there are even more demons out there! A sequel could really expand on this, introducing bands specializing in different genres like rock, jazz, or classical music. This wouldn’t just be a celebration of K-Pop, but of music in general, and it would allow for even more powerful and dangerous demons for Rumi, Mira, and Zoey to face.
1.) The Saja Boys Were Once Human

Since the next season of KPop Demon Hunters will likely explore demons more deeply, many fans believe the Saja Boys—the mysteriously vanished boy band—might return, possibly as demons who were once human. A photo in Healer Han’s office, seen in the first season, could be an early glimpse of what the Saja Boys looked like before becoming demons. If confirmed, this backstory would add complexity to the band and create an intriguing storyline for season two. It could even lead to a satisfying redemption arc, with the Saja Boys joining forces with Huntrix in an epic battle.
