Fans are eagerly awaiting the return of The Apothecary Diaries, which will have a new season beginning in Fall 2026. The anime, adapted from Natsu Hyuga’s popular historical novel, finished its second season in July 2025 and announced a sequel with a short teaser. More recently, on the series’ second anniversary last October, it was revealed that the third season will be split into two parts. The first part will premiere in Fall 2026, likely in early to mid-October, and the second part is planned for Spring 2027, following a short break over the winter.
The most anticipated part of this series is the upcoming movie, based on the original story. Even though the series won’t be back for a while, the creators frequently release new images to keep fans engaged. Valentine’s Day is a popular time for anime to share these updates, and fans were hoping for something special. Last year, a cute image of Maomao teaching Xiaolan how to make chocolates was a big hit. Unfortunately, no new visual was released this year, which was a letdown after the success of last year’s Valentine’s Day promotion.
The Apothecary Diaries Season 3 Will Bring New Challenges For Maomao and Jinshi

The first two seasons of the show covered the first four volumes of the original light novel, so the next season will start with Volume 5. It will follow Jinshi and Maomao as they leave the palace to investigate strange events happening in farming villages in the north. Season 2 also showed a significant development in the romantic relationship between the two main characters, even as they dealt with problems caused by the Shi Clan.
It’s been a whirlwind since the Shi Clan’s rebellion was stopped! I was so relieved Loulan managed to do it. I’ve gone back to working as an apothecary at the Verdigris House, stepping into my father’s role. Meanwhile, Jinshi has officially become the Moon Prince, taking on his royal duties. Honestly, with the Shi Clan—one of the kingdom’s most powerful families—falling, he’s got a lot on his plate dealing with everything that’s happened.
Over the course of Season 2, Jinshi and Maomao grew closer as Jinshi became more open. Season 3 will introduce a new setting and a big problem, and Jinshi will need Maomao’s help to solve it. Even though Maomao has left the palace, Jinshi still visits her whenever he can. You can rewatch the first two seasons on Crunchyroll and Netflix while you wait for the new season and movie.
